Fans wondering what they can expect in Star Wars: The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance, the first tie-in novel to the upcoming game, can get a sense of the novel by listening to an audio excerpt here.

The novel is written by now veteran Star Wars scribe Sean Williams and will help to set up the galaxy as fans will see it during The Old Republic game. Star Wars: The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance hits stores as a hardcover in July 22 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon.com.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

BioWare and LucasArts—creators of the hugely popular Star Wars:® Knights of the Old Republic® video game—have combined their storytelling talents and cutting-edge technology for an innovative new massively multiplayer online role-playing game that allows players to create their own personal Star Wars adventure 3,500 years before the rise of Darth Vader. Now #1 New York Times bestselling author Sean Williams brings the world of the game to life in his latest novel, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance.

Tassaa Bareesh, a matriarch in the Hutt crime cartel, is holding an auction that’s drawing attention from across the galaxy. Representatives of both the Republic and the Sith Empire are present, along with a Jedi Padawan sent to investigate, a disenfranchised trooper drummed out of the Republic’s elite  Blackstar Squad, and a mysterious Mandalorian with a private agenda. But the Republic’s envoy is not what he seems, the Empire’s delegate is a ruthless Sith apprentice, the Jedi Padawan is determined to do the right thing and terrified that he can’t, the trooper hopes to redeem her reputation, and the Mandalorian is somehow managing to keep one step ahead of everyone.

None of these guests—invited or uninvited—have any intention of participating in the auction. Instead they plan to steal the prize, which is locked inside an impregnable vault: two burned chunks of an exploded star cruiser, one of which may hold the key to the wealth of an entire world.

But the truth about the treasure is dangerous and deadly. And in the end, Sith and Jedi, Republic and Empire, must do something they’ve never done before, something that all the agents of good and evil could never make them do: join together to stop a powerful threat that could destroy the galaxy.

BioWare team totally rebuilt conversation system after seeing Mass Effect

In an interview with CVG  lead designer and storywriter Daniel Erickson revealed that BioWare had to re-think the Conversation System in Star Wars: The old republic after seeing Mass Effect. Originally the game was built far more like Dragon Age as far as Conversation System went," he said. "Our player characters were not going to be voiced because it's a massively insane expenditure and hugely complicated to do. You have to cast 16 of the best actors ever and then hold them for eternity.

He goes on to illustrate how the original Mass Effect caused the TOR team to adjust their thinking, as it debuted very early in the latter's development cycle.

You can read the full article at CVG.

Blood of the Empire: Act 2 Issue 3

The guys over at SWTOR-Station came across a great find today. They found the next version of Blood of the Empire, published in german at mycomics.de. Since SWTOR-Station is a German site, they also took the liberty to translate the story into english for us.

If you can't wait to read more of Blood of the Empire, you don't have time. This time we did not have to wait our usual two weeks for a new update, but the new issue appeared a lot faster. Still, the seventh issue of the webcomic appeared on a German comic page named mycomic.de and not on the official website.

We've transferred the text into English for you, so simply click the source down below and read the translation here.
Check out the comic at mycomics.de, and read the translation at SWTOR-Strategies

Friday Update: Blood of the Empire Act 2 Issue 2

BioWare was a little late getting out this Friday's update for Star Wars: The Old Republic. With rampant speculation that one of the game's testing phases would begin this weekend, this only helped fuel the fire. I hate to deliver bad news, but the update was recently posted and revealed the latest issue of Blood of the Empire. Although the webcomic is supposed to be released twice a month, this is the second installment in just as many weeks! On a positive note, we can all find out if Teneb Kel can escape alive.

In the sixth issue of Blood of the Empire™, Teneb Kel fights for his life as Lenico Colony Blue collapses around him. The Emperor's apprentice has proven vastly more powerful than anyone realized--it will take all Teneb's skills and resources to survive, let alone complete his mission. But can he rely on his closest ally in his moment of need, or will he face betrayal?

Check out the latest issue of Blood of the Empire now!

How will Kel recover after his defeat at the hands of the Emperor’s former apprentice? Will he continue to seek her out, or will he go to his Emperor in disgrace? One thing is for certain in this comic, and that is the fact that the Sith are driving the story so far. So sit back and enjoy the ride!

And over at Dark Horse, we get a sneak peek at Star Wars: The Old Republic # 4, scheduled for October 2010!! Check it out here...

A bit of speculation still surrounds the update; as Sean said that there were going to be two things posted. Then he said something about things can change. I get the feeling that BioWare is not happy about something right now so their plans changed a lot over the last couple of days.

FINAL UPDATE [6:05PM CDT]: Just to let everyone know, we will be putting up the latest issue of the Blood of the Empire within the hour. We thank you for your patience and understanding and definitely check back in next week.

It might be a new developer diary ( It has been a while since the last one) that just didn't make the deadline, or information about the beta. Off course it's all speculation.

May the schwartz be with you: Mon Dieu! Star Wars Made in France

From a country that loves its mimes and Jerry Lewis, it shouldn’t be surprising that this vintage video from 1977 features a gaggle of dancing Darth Vaders and C-3POs.

If droids dream, this is probably it.

Blur Studio to Create Cinematic Scenes in Star Wars: The old republic

Alessandro Baldasseroni, character modeler and texture/shader artist for Blur Studio, revealed some interesting information regarding Star Wars: The Old Republic, during an interview with EUCast.

While Baldasseroni could not confirm if the previous cinematic trailers would be included in the game, he did say “but for sure we are going to do more like, in game cinematics of this kind, with this kind of style for the game itself.”

Scenes in The Old Republic that are similar to the cinematic trailers are definitely something to look forward to. Baldasseroni worked on designs for characters like Darth Malgus, the Sith Lord that appears in both trailers.

Baldasseroni also hinted at more trailers or other work by Blur Studios for TOR, but could not go into further detail.

The entire interview will be released in Monday’s episode of EUCast.

Star Wars: The old republic - closed beta happening this weekend

There is a thread on the official Star Wars: The Old Republic forums started by community member Awran that talks about rumors of a “beta” session this weeken. Apparently reports are that 100-200 people received such an invite. Then when Sean Dahlberg responded he didn't confirm, but he didn't deny or lock the thread either. Here's his post:

Hey everyone,
Thanks for the information and it’s definitely interesting that people are posting about our Game Testing Program. We don’t have anything official to say at this moment but if you have any questions, please check out the Game Testing Program FAQ.
And a little later he posted again to reiterate what people are allowed to disclose and what not:

The Game Testing Agreement that was agreed upon (when signing up for game testing) states:

PERMITTED DISCLOSURES
1. The fact that there is a Game Program.
2. The fact that you are a member of the Game Program.
Outside of that, it is a violation of the agreement to do anything more such as posting images or screen captures of anything related to Game Testing that is private and confidential and not already publicly revealed by The Old Republic team.

I have been asked to remove the images that he is referring to - my apologies

Sadly, it looks like BioWare has already chosen their beta testers.  Those who haven’t already received emails will probably have to wait until the next beta period.

Begginer's Guide to Star Wars Slot Machine

I bet, avid Star Wars fans would be glad to know that a Star Wars Slot Machine is an additional tribute to one of the best sci-fi movies ever made in the entire era of the film industry. This slot machine is just as way more coolas any other slot machine there is. It has three base games interfaces and two bonus games – one with duel between Obi-Wan and and Vader and the other is a Death Star bonus. Once you get to pass these three levels, you get to blow the Death Star. It is indeed a very impressive work of art and a well done tribute to the movie we all loved. The team who made it named these three slot machines: Tatooine, Cantina and the Death Star.

This new and exciting Star Wars Slot Machine changes based on how much your bet per payline is. However, if you are just new to casino gaming or online slots you might as well read this brief article about a begginer's guide to playing slot which you can also use when the time comes and you encounter this best slot machine ever – The Star Wars Slot Machine!

Slot machines and online slot games are fun and exciting, but if you’ve never played one before, you may not know where to begin. Even if you have risked the occasional spare coin, you may not know as much about playing the slots as you would like to. Here’s a beginner’s guide to help you out.

Slots: Beginner’s Guide: Types of Slots
We’ve come a long way since the three reel, three line fruit machine. Today’s live and online slots come in a seemingly infinite variety of shapes and sizes, from games with Egyptian themes to games with Western themes to games with mini-games to games with video stories. Take your time and see all the slots that your live or us online casino has to offer before getting started. You can always try multiple games, but start investing your money with one you know you will like.

Slots: Beginner’s Guide: Multiple Coins
The days of putting a single quarter into the one-armed bandit are long gone too. Today’s machines and games allow multiple coins or units with each spin. The additional coins can either buy you more paylines or can multiply your payout. If you like having multiple opportunities to win on each spin go for a multi-line machine. If you like to win a big payout for your investment, stick with the multiple machines.

Slots: Beginner’s Guide: Progressive Jackpots
The progressive jackpot is one of the great all-time additions to the world of slots. A progressive jackpot machine has a special jackpot that you can win if you hit a rare combination of symbols. The great thing about this jackpot is that it is paid into by a group of linked slots, meaning that multiple players are paying in all the time, while you are playing. What this means for you is that tremendous pots often develop, so that whoever hits the jackpot can win a life-changing some of money. If you play a progressive, be sure to play the maximum number of coins per spin or you won’t qualify, even though you will be paying into the jackpot pool.

An Excerpt from The Old Republic: Deceived!

Author Paul S. Kemp gave fans a bit of food to tide their hunger over for his upcoming The Old Republic novel today. Entitled Deceived, Kemp’s tie-in novel to the upcoming game will focus on the characters, and even some of the events, seen in the cinematic “Deceived” trailer for The Old Republic from last year.

Here's an excerpt from his excerpt:
Ahead, he saw the four towers surrounding the stacked tiers of the Jedi Temple, its ancient stone as orange as fire in the light of the setting sun. The civilians seemed to give it a wide berth, as if it were a holy place, rather than a place of sacrilege.

He would reduce it to rubble.

He walked toward it and fate walked beside him.

Statues of long-dead Jedi Masters lined the approach to the Temple’s enormous doorway. The setting sun stretched the statue’s tenebrous forms across the duracrete. He walked through the shadows and past them, noting some names: Odan Urr, Ooroo, Arca Jeth.

“You have been deceived,” he whispered to them. “Your time is past.”

Be sure to check out the excerpt for Star Wars: The Old Republic: Deceived, if you’re so inclined, and pick up it up when it hits December 28, 2010 as a hardcover.

Brian Arndt Video Interview

The guys over at Torocast, have released yet another video interview from E3 2010. This time it's the interview is with Media Designer for SWTOR - Brian Arndt.

Much like our last interview, we focused on asking questions that were outside of the box to get to know the people behind Bioware and what their job is like. So we didn't ask those juicy questions that only get a "We can't talk about that now" answer and focused on the behind the scenes peek at what is going on with the game and how things are done. As a result we have our interview with Brian Arndt about his role as a Media Designer for SWTOR.

May the schwartz be with you: Never Cross Jedi Cat!

Beware mouse droids and feline-hating Sith — there’s a new Jedi master in town and he’s not interested in joining the dark side.

Here’s a Force-tastic fan-made video of a cat who has some rather impressive lightsaber skills. We’re especially delighted with the adorkable roll over lightsaber throw at the end.

And we also get a special Fan Friday, in the form of an E3 Wrapup:
It has been a sensational week for The Old Republic at the E3 Press Conference! Thanks to everyone for checking in throughout the week and supporting The Old Republic. It’s inspiring to see the community charged up with excitement for this game. Thanks for all your support!
Sean also took the time to provide sort of a manifesto to fans who might be a little over-zealous in their vocalization of what E3 brought:

Hey guys,

I got up at 4am this morning to get back to Austin so I'll make this short and sweet instead of rambling on as I tend to.

We've talked about this before but it bears mentioning again; the updates we do are for the entire TOR Community. We have everything from people who read the site almost every minute to people who visit the site once a week; people who scour the web for data and people who like to be directed to what and where our updates are. So when we do our big broadcast messages, it is directed towards the entire TOR Community.

This week's Fan Friday was special. We've never had a Fan Friday that was updated every day of the week nor have we ever had a Fan Friday that announced any major systems. And from day one, last week, we called out very specifically that we would have an update every day (for this week) instead of just throwing it all out on a Friday.

Some of you knew about all of our updates come Monday. Some found out about the various updates all through the week. But some people won't find out about the War Zones and the Chiss Imperial Agent or Twi'lek Smuggler until today and some won't even see that info until we post it on our other social networks. Some won't even see it until next week.

SIDE NOTE: While we aren't talking about it yet (and I know many of you dislike this but there are various and valid reasons why we do this), we are not saying that you can ONLY be a Twi'lek as a Smuggler. What we are saying is that we are CONFIRMING that as a Smuggler, you can choose Twi'lek as a species. Will there be limitations? Yes, there will be. What are they? We aren't talking about that yet because we haven't come to a final conclusion on some things yet. When we do, you will definitely know but in the meanwhile we are only confirming what we know will not change between now and launch. Back to the point...

We all think it's awesome that we have so many dedicated fans. We really do. We only get to meet a fraction of them and the ones we do are amazing. Just this last week I got to personally meet a wide variety of people who participate in these forums on a consistent basis and it was great to see their excitement for TOR. And it's great to see everyone pull together and share all the information they gleamed from each and every interview they could find across the web (and sorry that my interview didn't really have any big reveals or anything in it).

But, like I said, our updates are crafted for the entire community and while a segment may learn everything before even the first day of E-3 (and some even before the Pre-E3 Press Event, ack!), a large portion of our community doesn't learn about things until later and usually when we are informing them of the updates by posting them on our website and the social networks we participate in.

Now, I know some of you will disagree with me (I have been reading the threads and posts between shifts when doing demos and at night), I personally believe we revealed a lot this week:
  • Hope - A new cinematic trailer.
  • Player Ships - Announcing a mobile base of operations and even showing two of them.
  • Armor Progression - Showed off a few new outfits and gave a small peek at how a character might progress.
  • Live Gameplay - We've never shown that yet and not only did we show a single-player experience we also showed a group experience. On live television where anything could happen.
  • Species reveals - Announced two more species; Chiss and Twi'lek.
  • War Zones - Talked a little about our PvP system; granted, we have a lot more details to give out on that but we have to refine and test things first to make sure we're giving out great and accurate information
  • Hands-On Demos - We let a lot of people come to our booths and play TOR; yes some were mainstream press and we had a few celebs come by, but we also had quite a few community members come through that work on various fan sites and podcasts (and many that aren't even TOR specific).

And that's not even counting all the information and things talked about during the various interviews. Granted, I'm seeing things from my point of view, but I think we did a lot over the last five days.

Hmm, and maybe I should go back and remove the part about me not rambling... because I think I ended up doing that after all

Quick Edit: And no, not asking for you guys to thank us or anything else. I am just trying to give a little more information on why things are they way they are based on some of the posts I have been reading over the last week.
Rob Chestney also made a post on the the official forums where he gives some explanation on the standard MMO roles seen in one of the gameplay videos:
Hey guys,

This is a great thread and it's nice to see so many of the discussions that take place within BioWare echoed among the fans. I'm actually in the booth now helping play through these demos (as the Jedi Knight--woot!), and this thread grabbed my attention. A lot of good points have been made already here to clarify what the multiplayer demo implies and what the takeway is, but I think it's worth a few more comments:

- For the purpose of this multiplayer demo, we wanted to keep the 'team combat dynamic' simple and easy to understand. Furthermore, the Consular acts as the healer and as the 'camera' for the demo, so she isn't necessarily playing exactly as she would in a normal playthrough. We wanted her to stay back from the action to provide a wide-angle view of the entire scene. Thus, where she might have run into to strike a few blows for righteousness in a regular group battle, she has to minimize that to keep the view right.

- One of the other things to keep in mind is that these are level 8-10 level characters, and none of them have begun to train as "advanced classes". New strategies for team combat develop as characters get new skills, get higher level powers, and select specializations. Keep in mind also, that the demo is designed so that people who may not be MMO veterans can understand it also.

- There also seems to be some confusion about the primary classes being locked into primary roles. The Sith Warrior has two advanced classes; the Juggernaut and the Marauder. One is a better track for a 'tank', the other is more of a damage-dealer. The paradigm of advanced classes is designed to provide branching options so that all primary classes have at least two options for the types of role they will play in groups. Beyond that even, there are further specialization/customization options that will give characters additional variety in the types of roles they can play.

To sum up, don't assume too much from one example of four-player team combat that we're showing at E3. We hope you like the team dynamic we're showing to folks here, but we don't want you guys to read too much into it. At a later date, we'll definitely try to show you some different strategies and team dynamics so you can get a better idea of the breadth of the experience of team combat in TOR.

Eventually, we look forward to you guys getting your hands on the game to find out for yourselves!

Thanks!!

"Hope" Video Dissection

The guys over at Torocast made a video Dissection of the new cinematic trailer for Bioware's MMORPG, Star Wars: The Old Republic.  "Hope" Eaven though it lacks quite a bit of things, it's still a great watch.

Clone Wars Adventures E3 2010 Coverage

You may have forgotten about the recent announcement of Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures due to the frenzy of TFU II and TOR coverage coming out of E3 2010. I know I have, so  let's bring it back to the forefront for a bit as VGChartz provides a preview of the game with screenshots.

Here is a snip:
The demo starts off in a waiting room area. Here you can wander around, hang out with your friends, and interact with iconic Star Wars characters, and change your personal avatar in the Clone Wars world. One of the most fun features in this section were the droids. Like pets in other MMO-style games, Clone Wars Adventures allows you to have droids follow you around and you can do fun custom things with them. The developer chose C-3PO and made him walk like he was high-stepping. Then he chose an astro droid like R2 and had it play disco music while all the characters on screen danced the choreography of Beyonce's "Single Ladies" music video.

E3 – Day 1 Roundup: Ships, Groups and more

Looks like we are getting treated to at least some more eye candy today… If you've seen the latest update to BioWare's "The Old Republic @ E3 2010" post then you'll have noticed the following:

The Old Republic Live on G4!

Make sure to check out G4’s half-hour blowout on Star Wars: The Old Republic starting at 2pm PT! Adam Sessler, X-Play host and G4’s Editor-In-Chief of Games, plans to deliver a 30-minute all-access coverage of The Old Republic including live game-play.

Never before have we granted so much time to one game at E3,” said Adam Sessler. “Star Wars: Old Republic is a game of such breadth that the excitement around it and the time we are dedicating to it will have a huge pay-off for the viewers.

Want to see what the press are seeing? Then don’t miss a minute of it!

Below are embeds of the Bounty Hunter Armor Progression video, the Bounty Hunter/Imperial Agent combat video, and the Player Ships video!

Here you see a trooper and smuggler work together for the Republic on a quest:

A Sith Warrior and Sith Inquisitor engage in combat on a quest:

This video shows both the bounty hunter and imperial agent in combat:

This video shows the Bounty Hunter in combat and upgrading its armour. You can see that the armour can be indeed customised to suit your tastes:

They haven't talked much about space or even player ships but it looks like Player ships ARE coming to Star Wars: The Old Republic:

It seems that Massively had a sitdown at a BioWare presentation where they talked about including player ships, group play, PvP, crafting and customization. It's not a terribly long article, but here's an excerpt:

Borrowing ideas from other well-established titles, Bioware went on to discuss the game's crafting and PvP systems. Crafting will be "unique but WoW-like", though no specific details have yet been published on it. For PvP, the game will feature some large open PvP areas in addition to instanced warzones. These are intended to act like World of Warcraft's battlegrounds, pitting teams against each other in instanced matches. Transitioning from the game world into an instance is smooth, with absolutely no load time. If it weren't for the glowing green area, you might not even realise you'd entered an instance

EA's E3 2010 Press Conference Roundup

EA's press conference for this year's E3 just finished... and as expected it finished with a smashing The Old Republic cinematic trailer. I Just wanted to put together a quick post that details the things we’ve discovered today, the day BEFORE E3 officially begins!

  1. Player Ships! IGN UK revealed through their play with the Smuggler that each class will get their own ship, and it will be highly customizeable. Though they didn't go into more detail than that I suspect (as I have for a long time) that ships will function much the same as your ship did in the first two KotOR games... a place where your companions hang out, from where you can travel to other planets, and perhaps for things like crafting. Now, they don’t say anything about space combat but if the ships are highlyg customiseable, that’s likely to mean other people will be able to see them… :)

  2. War Zones! These seem to be The Old Republic’s implementation of PvP battlegrounds. According to Joystiq, one of them will be on Alderaan. I didn't really get more details beyond that. Just that you're supposedly have to pick a side; Republic or Empire. Who would've thought that?

  3. The new cinematic trailer – “Hope” – has been revealed! I've blogged about the leaked trailer before, but now it is official. SWTOR.com has been updated with the trailer…  A high-rez version has been posted for download as well!

Oh, one final thing, they also confirmed that people will be able to get hands-on experience with the game during E3, so I'm sure that we'll get plenty of reports on that in the coming days. Possibly even some gameplay videos.

Star Wars: The Old Republic trailer leaked

BioWare and Star Wars is almost a magical combination, but when it comes to online role-playing, they are still inexperienced. EA hopes that Mythic Studios, the team behind Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning can add some experience and a dose of good advice.

It will be exciting to see the end result, but until then, enjoy the trailer - swiftly withdrawn. HD version still to come.

UPDATE:
The HQ version has now gone live

LucasArts Developing New Game For Xbox 360

Ahead of tomorrow's Microsoft press conference at the E3 video game expo, the USA Today has a story with some interesting new details.

Microsoft's "Project Natal" motion control system, which was announced in early June at E3 2009, will be called Kinect, according to the USA Today story. The new name, which was leaked in advance of its intended unveiling at a pre-show party tonight, is probably less interesting to readers of this site than another interesting tidbit that has just come out.

Star Wars characters and iconic Disney favorites will be featured in separate new games being developed at Microsoft in conjunction with LucasArts and Disney.

Giving that Microsoft Kinect is supposed to be a groundbreaking way for gamers to control their consoles with just their body movement, it's likely that this new Star Wars game will take game-play in the Galaxy Far, Far Away to a whole new level.

G4TV To Debut TOR Trailer Tomorrow?

From Ask A Jedi:
G4 TV officially starts their live E3 broadcast coverage at 3pm Pacific time tomorrow, Monday June 15th.
Interestingly, this just so happens to coincide with the end of the countdown timer on the home page of the official Star Wars: The Old Republic site.
While we already know that G4 won’t be doing their promised 30-minute coverage of The Old Republic until Tuesday, this does make it likely that the new cinematic trailer will be revealed between the hours of 3:30pm and 6:00pm, which is after the EA press conference.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Exclusive Hands-On - Bounty Hunter, Trooper, Imperial Agent, Smuggler, Sith Inquisitor, and Sith Warrior

It’s starting! Today Gamespot published a long article, which does not only talkt about gameplay impressions, but also announces two playable species: Twi'lek and Chiss. In addition to 4 brand new screenshots, they reveal lots of combat – here is a snippet

The Republic trooper and the smuggler professions begin their lives in the same area under different circumstances. As a trooper, we started our career as the newest member of the elite Republic commando unit known as Havoc squad–a handsome human soldier riding on the inside of a giant walker into a war zone on the planet of Ord Mantell. The planet is a Republic world torn apart by a civil war waged by separatist rebels. As a smuggler, we played as a Twi’lek, which is the humanoid Star Wars race that has long tentacles down either side of their heads, similar to the Bib Fortuna character in Return of the Jedi.

Yes, the Twi’lek are playable, and this one was a Han Solo-like ship captain who lands her Millennium Falcon-esque ship on Ord Mantell to drop off a weapon shipment to the Republic fort. Unfortunately for both characters, the Republic’s on-the-ground contacts double-cross the standing armies, siding with the separatists instead. As a result, the separatists steal the smuggler’s ship and hack into the local artillery banks, which means that the beginner smuggler must go out on foot (or risk being shot down), while the trooper’s walker gets blasted by the commandeered guns and needs to go it alone on foot as well.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Timeline 8: The Jedi Civil War

The characters from Bioware’s Knights of the Old Republic video game have long been some of the most beloved Expanded Universe characters Star Wars has to offer. Chief among them was the series’ mysterious protagonist, Revan. Although his history has been explored in a few places– including both the Knights of the Old Republic game and comic– his full past was always a mystery. A mystery, though, that now is a bit clearer.

Join Jedi Master Gnost-Dural’s in his historical investigation of the past and watch as he examines the events surrounding Revan’s fall and his ultimate fate in the timeline entry “The Jedi Civil War,” which can viewed below.

On the official forums BioWare' Rob Chestney also has a little to say on it, and it's not entirely satisfactory. But at least it seems like they tried. I guess I just expected them to be good enough to actually succeed in all cases. Here's what he had to say:

Hey Folks,

Just reading the responses to the Jedi Civil War Timeline, and I thought it would be worth commenting on a few things.

Firstly, the canon for Lucas is that Revan was male and that he followed the light-side ending for KotOR. That said, if you played KotOR, and experienced it differently, please use your imagination to make it work. We really didn't want to spoil anyone's KotOR memories and in fact, in any place we could, we tried to be inconclusive about these things. Ultimately, though, even for TOR it was necessary to come up with something firm about who Revan was and what he did.

Also, there is a glaring error in the timeline in describing the Rakatan technology as being developed 25 centuries ago. It was actually developed 25 millennia ago. We will try to go back and correct that at some point.

Keep in mind, as some other posters have referenced, the timelines are authored by a Jedi Master living 300 years after KotOR. Not all the facts were confirmed by the Jedi, and in some places, he may be wrong about what actually occurred. That goes for all the timelines.

Rumor: Star Wars: Starfighter to be resurrected

Several video game news sites are reporting that the next installment of Starfighter could possibly be in the works and may even be revealed next week at E3. This is definitely a possibility, since LucasArts has not revisited any flight simulation games since Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike, released on the GameCube in 2003.

Since we only know of  four upcoming Star Wars games (The Force Unleashed 2, The Old Republic, Lego Star Wars III, and the newly announced Clone Wars Adventures), E3 is a mighty fine time to announce a game, but for now, file this one away as a rumor. We’ll keep you updated as E3 draws closer.

Behind the scenes - making of a new Star Wars: The Old Republic trailer

GTTV brings E3 to you early with an exclusive behind the scenes making of a new Star Wars: The Old Republic trailer. The show will be broadcast this Friday at 11PM

LucasArts Gets A New President

It looks like LucasArts will be at E3 2010 next week with their new president in place. ust a month after Darrell Rodriguez left his position as head of LucasArts, the gaming company has named Paul Meegan to fill the void at the helm. Meegan formerly helped found Epic Games China and worked at Ubisoft and Jaleco Entertainment.

Meegan has had a long history in the game industry. He founded game developer Sinister Games in 1997 which was bought by Ubisoft a few years later. After serving as an executive at both Ubisoft and the now defunct Jaleco Entertainment, Meegan became the co-founder and CEO of Epic Games China. There's no word yet if Meegan will be attending E3.

IGN also reports that Meegan will get started at LucasArts in mid-June.

Star Wars Imperial Walker Loft Bed

We hope this kid really loves his father. Now, this is how you create a whole new generation of sci-fisci-fi geeks.

This is a loft bed I made for my son that resembles a Star Wars AT-AT Imperial Walker.
I searched the Internet and found scale models, cakes, legos, baby strollers and costumes resembling an AT-AT, but never found a bed that resembled an AT-AT. So I made one.
It was made with materials available at any Home Depot or Lowe's. This is a video/slideshow of some of the photos I took during the build process.

Hopefully this will help someone who might consider building their own AT_AT.

My son sure enjoys his!

May the force be with you!

A favored SWG developer moves to SWTOR

Massively reports that a  one of Star Wars Galaxies' developers, and apparently a fan-beloved one, has moved on to join the The Old Republic development team:

Massively has learned some exciting news for Star Wars: The Old Republic and sad news for Star Wars Galaxies. According to his Linked-In profile, the fan-beloved developer, Matt Boudreaux, landed a new job at Bioware's Austin studios working on SWTOR. Boudreaux, known as AdeptStrain on the SOE forums, implemented some of the most ground-breaking additions to the aging game Star Wars Galaxies, such as new Jedi and melee animations, the Appearance Tab, and the Chronicles System. His role on the SWG team was solidified by his role in creating some of the best instances like Hoth and Death Troopers.

His wit and easygoing demeanor gained AdeptStrain quick rapport among fans. Roleplayers, in particular, have a vested interest in his work because of the added character customization given by the Appearance Tab. Some players are even considering moving to SWTOR just because AdeptStrain is now a part of the team. A loss for SWG truly is a gain for SWTOR.

Based on their job postings, it does not seem that SOE are looking for a replacement, but when they do, he or she will have big shoes to fill. We at Massively congratulate Matt on his new position and wish him well.

Matt has also since made a couple of posts on the forums (post 1, post 2, post 3):

Hi guys and girls,

If you played SWG in the last two years or so, you know me as AdeptStrain. For everyone else, nice to meet you!

I'm insanely excited to be working here at BioWare. The magnitude of talent here is quite staggering and I hope to contribute in any way I can to make TOR an amazing experience for all. While SWG will always have a special place in my heart, I'm very excited to put all my energies into TOR and help to try and create something really amazing.

I can't wait to start having some interesting conversations. Till then, I'll be diligently working on my various tasks.
- Matt

Post two:
Thanks for all the <3 guys. To answer a few quick questions, my job title is programmer. My current tasks are... my current tasks.

Replying to questions about his ingame allegiance and class:

I honestly have no idea. I normally like being on the good side of things, but I also tend to find the light side a bit whiny for my tastes (seriously, watch Luke in A New Hope). As for class, I personally think the Trooper class is pretty awesome.

The best of luck to Matt in his new job and congratulations to both him and BioWare on the new partnership.

Dramatis Personae for The Old Republic: Decieved

As many Star Wars novel readers are no doubt aware, each novel contains a “Dramatis Personae”; a list of characters that readers are about to see in the novel and who they are. Author Paul S. Kemp (EUC’s interview) has given readers a first look at his upcoming novel The Old Republic: Deceived by posting the Dramatis Personae.

It can be considered spoiler-filled, but if you’re so inclined, you can check it out here.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Deceived, a tie-in novel to The Old Republic game, is set to hit stores as a hardcover on December 28, 2010.

I’m hoping to get approval in July to begin posting excerpts from Deceived, my Star Wars novel set in the The Old Republic.  But in the meantime, I thought I’d  post the Dramatis Personae for the novel.  There are four core characters (these four are either point of view characters, or characters with a lot of  screen time) and several important, but non-core characters.

The Core Characters
  • Darth Malgus, male human Sith lord.
  • Eleena Daru, female Twi-lek, a trained combatant and Malgus’s companion.
  • Aryn Leneer, female human Jedi Knight and Force Empath.
  • Zeerid Korr, male human smuggler, former Republic commando

The Non-Core characters
  • Master Ven Zallow, male human Jedi Master
  • Darth Angral, male human  Sith Lord.
  • Lord Adraas, male human Sith.

adidas Originals – Star Wars Cantina 2010

This made our day! So cool. Daft Punk, Snoop Dogg, Noel Gallagher, Ian Brown, Ciara, DJ Neil Armstrong and others in the world of Star Wars for the “adidas Originals” campaign. Brilliantly done.
