As we get closer to the eventual launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic, we see more and more websites selling in-game currency and power-leveling. It’s an interesting phenomenon but not surprising, really.
Everyone is trying to jump in and get their own piece of the SWTOR pie and for those who offer shortcuts in the game, that piece might not be so little.
While some still do not understand why gamers would want to fast-track their way through the game, there seems to be no shortage of people willing to buy such services. Some argue that they don’t have the time to level up in the game or farm for currency and that adults who work hard to be able to afford it should be able to pay their hard-earned cash to get more of what they want in the game. Is it really hurting anyone other than them?
It’s an age-old question as old as MMORPGs themselves and one thing that BioWare is doing to try to combat it is create an irresistible storyline that players will not want to miss by paying a power-leveler. But then there is still the problem of in-game currency.
Does it really hurt if one player wants to spend some real game cash on some in-game gold? On the one hand, it doesn’t seem like such a big deal. On the other hand, it can throw off the in-game economy, jacking up the market or hurting the market for certain items. It’s not clear what BioWare plans to do, if anything, about balancing the economy so that it is not greatly affecting by gold-sellers or gold farmers.
Whichever side of the fence you are on, it’s important to know that not all gold selling, power leveling companies are created equal. There are some legitimate companies out there seeking nothing more than to help you get the maximum enjoyment out of your game. Then there are others looking to manipulate desperate gamers trying to keep up with real life and their gaming scene. Don’t entrust your account to just anyone and don’t risk losing your account for a jump-start to more currency. Be cautious when clicking on those many links promising you riches in SWTOR.
