Most Beta Testers Would Recommend SWTOR to Friends

We received a screenshot of a poll supposedly published in the beta forums for SWTOR. It’s unofficial but based on the same question that testers are reportedly asked throughout their experience in the beta version of the game.

The question is: Based on your experience today, how likely are you to recommend SWTOR to a friend?

They are then asked to vote on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest. At the time the screencap was sent to us, 823 people had responded.

Here is the breakdown of the responses:

  • 1- 13 1.58%
  • 2- 3 0.36%
  • 3- 13 1.58%
  • 4- 12 1.46%
  • 5- 45 5.47%
  • 6- 26 3.16%
  • 7- 61 7.41%
  • 8- 99 12.03%
  • 9- 81 9.84%
  • 10- 470 57.11%
So the numbers show us that most people who are testing who took the time to find and then respond to this unofficial survey would in fact recommend SWTOR to a friend. I imagine this is not really a scientific approach to the matter but it is fun, nevertheless.

This was not an official questionnaire, which was apparent in the grammar of the poster and his “anonymous pole” and the poster does not represent BioWare in anyway, which they made clear. However, it was still a pretty fun poll with a decent response rate to let you know what people who are testing thing about it.

So let us know, based on what you know about the game so far, would you recommend it to friends?

Old Republic Release Date Tied to Beta, Says EA

EA says, "We don't want to happen to us what happened to WoW," in reference to their launch and not in reference to success, of course.

EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau explained to CVG that while they have a date for the SWTOR launch, the deciding factor will rest in the hands of the beta testers. The date is tentatively set for “holiday 2011” but will be dependent upon fan reactions to the beta of the game.

"We're driving towards a date, but the very issue you raised is why we're not announcing a date yet because you want to make sure that these services can last a decade," the exec said.

He adds, "It is definitely tied to the beta test feedback that's ongoing and so far, so good. We feel good about the date that we're heading towards but you're right, you could have a Crazy Ivan show up in the September/October beta test and be like, 'wow, I've got to fix that'."

Next comes a WoW reference you won’t see in most articles on the game as Gibeau explains that BioWare wants to avoid the problem’s that Blizzard had with the launch of the ever-popular MMORPG, “World of Warcraft”.

When they say problems, they are referring to technical glitches that hampered WoW’s launch. I was in the beta so I remember this all too well and I’m all for not seeing the same problems with SWTOR.

The story concludes: "We're totally focused on quality, so whatever the beta test tells us is what will be the determining variable on when we will hit."

That’s what we want to hear!

Facebook Image of The Week #27

It's that time of the week again. The time were BioWare gives updates there facebook page with a new screenshot of Star Wars: The old republic. This week we get to se more Jedi action, as a Jedi Shadow strikes down a Sith soldier:

Concluding a fierce battle on the battered world of Corellia, a Jedi Shadow strikes down the last of an Imperial patrol.

Guild Ships and Mini Games

MMORPG.com has an interesting article interview with Emmanuel Lusinchi up that is really worth the read.

The Gamescom Q&A has a lot to offer- including info about guild ships and mini games and more. One might start to wonder what else we could possibly learn from these interviews that we don’t already know about SWTOR but usually there is a tidbit or two in each one that we find interesting. Those are the stories that we pass on to you here.

At first, Lusinchi tells us what he finds the most exciting aspect of the game and again, it comes back to the story, something that BioWare is pushing hard with this title:
“We wanted to make the game feel more like a story then just another level grinder, we wanted you to care about your character, so that you aren't just playing to get more experience instead you are playing because of the feel that your character is immersed into the story. For example there is a Star Wars scroll that is constantly being updated with your personal story every time you finish a quest to help remind you what is going on, the idea is to get you so involved in the story that you would forget what level your character even was.”

Then, he goes on to talk about where he sees SWTOR in two years. And, another exciting tidbit is the mention of more mini games in SWTOR. Lusinchi says we won’t see more at launch but that there will definitely be more to come in the future of the game. He adds that there are a lot of future cool updates that he cannot talk about at this time but that he can say there will be more new cool mini games coming out in the future as well.

He also talks about character customization tweaks, milestones in the game development, and more. So check out the full interview for yourself over at MMORPG.com and tell us what you think.

Star Wars Galaxies Saga Continues

Star Wars Galaxies is in its last days. The sun is setting on this saga and SOE hopes it will go out with a bang! The dev team is working on the final few months of the MMO and they are issuing a challenge to the Imperials or Rebels. The fate of the galaxy, once and for all.

It’s all about an exciting Galactic Civil War in the game with new events and new chances to win points for your side. It’s even bigger thanks to the recent GU20 update.

Before the end date of December 15th when SWG will shut down forever, the score will be tallied and there will be a winning side announced and etched into the record books for all of eternity. The ending of the game itself can be affected by which side wins so if you’re still into SWG, now is your chance to fight for your side, once and for all.

But what if you’re a neutral party? Well, don’t worry because SOE also has plans for you to help the game be more interesting and to help you countdown to the last days in fun.

But remember that if you want to take part in the parting days of SWG, you need to be signed up and subscribed prior to September 15th. After that, no new registrations will be allowed.

Sneak Peeks at Star Wars The Clone Wars Season 4

Thanks to IGN.com we have nine brand new pre-release images of the upcoming fourth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, including a first look at Karakarodon shark-man Riff Tamson and R2D2 and C3PO in full Gulliver's Travels mode...

Once more the character design team have got it spot on, and this fourth season is certainly looking good so far.

EA changes Origin EULA

Gamers have been ticked off since the news got around that EA’s Origin basically contained spyware. GameSpot reports that EA has now changed the Original EULA. But is this enough for some people?

According to the GameSpot report:

“Earlier this week, Electronic Arts became a subject of controversy after customers took exception to the end-user license agreement in the publisher's Origin downloadable game service. While EA did not return requests for comment at the time, it did amend the EULA in question in ways that may address some of the users' concerns.”

The current agreement now says that "EA would never sell your personally identifiable information to anyone, nor would it ever use spyware or install spyware on users' machines. We and agents acting on our behalf do not share information that personally identifies you without your consent, except in rare instances where disclosure is required by law or to enforce EA's legal rights."

Is this enough to calm the fears of gamers? It’s not the first time EA has had issues in terms of privacy. In 2006, there was a big controversy when it was revealed that they used player data as a way to target users for in-game advertisements.

This does seem to be the way of the future as advertising in gaming is reaching an all-time high and video games continue to grow in popularity. Is this something to be concerned about or is it something we should all get used to?

It’s likely this won’t be the last issue of this time we see from EA or other gaming companies.

SWTOR Weapons List

If you’re curious about what weapons will be in SWTOR (like many of us are) then there is a great list put up by The Old Republic or Die that lists the ones that are currently known about. The list has been gathered from around the Internet, various posts and playtime that people have written about. It is not complete yet but they say they will be adding to it as information comes in.

It’s worth the time to head over there and see the list and be sure to add more if you know of weapons that are not listed. The current list is as follows:

PAX Prime 2011: James Ohlen Interview

FORCE Junkies got an interview with James Ohlen at PAX Prime. If you have been living under a rock, James Ohlen is Game Director of Star Wars the old republic.

James and force junkies talks about wide range of topics spreading from combat, to flashpoints and operations to crafting. Check out the video below:

Tim Bertram added to RepublicTrooper.com Team

RepublicTrooper.com has added Tim Bertram to their team. Tim is an aspiring author, with one completed novel already under his belt and he is writing a fan-fiction novel based on the Republic Trooper exclusively for their site!

The title of the novel is "Lost Tales of the Old Republic". They already have the first two chapters from him - over 20,000 words, and each Monday they will posting a new portion of the story.
The first portion of Chapter 1 can be found here.

It begins:
The entire craft shook so hard that you could hear the teeth of the assembled troopers chattering together, causing several of them to insert mouth guards as they finalized last minute preparations before decent. Staff Sergeant Jarrek Gageiz; Gage to his friends and fellow Non Commissioned Officers, and Staff Sergeant ‘G’ to his troopers held on tightly to a handhold along with several other NCO’s as the rest of the troopers were strapped into their seats.
“Corporal Rossik!” he yelled down the aisle towards the back of the craft. A young Corporal rushed up the aisle staggering as the shaking craft nearly took him off his feet.
“Yes Staff Sergean…” Rossik answered as he approached Gage, but was cut short.

Check out their site to read the rest. You won’t be disappointed. As a fellow writer, I loved it but I’m sure it’s something other SWTOR fans will enjoy as well.

PAX Prime 2011: SWTOR panel

I know we are late with this story, but it has been hard finding decent footage of the SWTOR Panel from Sunday. Luckily Dustin from Guild Vendetta got a recording from the panel were it actually possible to understand what is been said. As we all know lot's of new interesting stuff was revealed, like the Beta weekend and open battlefields.

Thanks to Dustin for sending this over. Check it out below:

The Guild Sphere: Guild Vendetta

Little later then normal this fine Monday we present to you this weeks first guild feature. This time Vendetta,   A republic guild aiming ti explore both PVE, PVP and RP is in the spotlight.

Where did your guilds name come from?
The name Vendetta was picked agreed on since it sounded cool, short, and tells people we are a PvP guild.

Can you give me a quick 2-3 sentence description of your guild?
Vendetta is going to be slightly different from any guild out there. We plan on being a hardcore style guild that demands quality players, but with an undertone of casualness. What I mean by an undertone of casualness is that even though quality will be the demanding factor to be a guild member, maintaining a schedules of 40+ hrs a week of game time and things of that nature are not a requirement for the guild.

How did your guild come about?
Vendetta is a closed beta started guild. It was formed from a few members who continually ran across one another during the closed beta phase of Warhammer Online and we decided to start a guild and continue it through beta, and into open release. During the 1st creation of Vendetta we achieved the highest rank of any guild destruction or order in the world. Vendetta then manage this great feat again with Aion.

What kind of play style do you focus on? PvE, PvP, RP:
All 3 are very important to us. We plan to explore all aspects of the game, leaving no stone un-turn. Why pick one candy bar to eat for the next 6 years when you can have the whole candy store? PvP and PvE go hand in hand. Since our organization in PvP really helps us tackle PvE. The gear earned in PvE helps fill in your gear for PvP. As a competitive guild, we will take any edge we can get to dominate our foe. This is also the first Vendetta branch that will also include RP. We feel RP in a story driven game will really help make the game come alive. Our RP policy will be light and may not be suited for a hard core role player. I also have much respect for the maturity that a RP server has to offer. Beside is there any lore that better to RP then Star Wars? I think not…

What is your guild set up? How do you run your guild?
Organization is very important in a guild. Vendetta in SWTOR will have a council system. Where not just one person but three (or more depending on the current guild size) people are in charge to lead the guild. That way even if a guild leader needs to take a break or deal with a real life situation. A member in the council can quickly and smoothly take control with no hiccup in the guild.
Ever been a guild officer and felt overwhelmed with all your responsibility? The officer ranks in Vendetta are job based, to help focus an officer attention to better lead the guild.
Example: A PvE General will focus on planning and leading the guild in raids, and other forms of PvE.
The next rank down is a Field Commander. The beauty of this rank is it not managed by the head guild leaders. This rank is promoted to and managed by the General rank. This way the General is able to get who he or she needs to help lead the guild in PvE or PvP.
The next rank down is the enforcers of the guild, it there job to keep the peace in the guild. It also helps deal with issues at the lowest officer rank, so the leaders can focus more attention on leading the guild.
The next ranks are for members, with no or little responsibly. They may concentrate on one thing, and that is to have fun.

How serious do you play and/or run the guild?
Vendetta is a guild that has almost zero rules or regulations. I feel if a person needs a list of what not to do, they lack the maturity I require to be a Vendetta member. We are all adults and know how to act in public. On a normal day I plan to be very casual and relaxed, but when it comes to keeping the peace quick and serious action will be taken.

Do you have ranks or a certain hierarchy in your guild?
Yes, we have 3 or 5 people in a council leading the guild. Then the Generals with their own officers that they pick and promote and manage, to help lead the guild in PvP, and PvE. Guild recruitment is handled by all trusted members who been with the guild for some time.

Why did you choose the Republic?
Do I look Emo? I picked republic since I enjoy the Jedi lore, and love to fight for the good guys.

Why do you run a guild?
Good question, a guy got to be crazy to want to huh? I run a guild simple because I wanted to join a guild that was friendly, casual, focused, and mature, with a nice website. I then was able to meet a group of friends that wanted the same. Once I got sick of looking for such guild, I decided it was time to make such a guild.

How do you approach Raid Planning?
What Vendetta has done in the past and it has worked exceptionally well is having a simplistic and easy to use rotating schedule that allows ALL members of the guild to participate in guild events. For example (this is not our schedule) If the guild were to raid mon and tue, what we would do, is have the 1st week of the month Mon & Tue, 2nd week of the month Wed, & Thur, 3rd week, Fri & Sat, then last week Sun. This allows for the raid schedule to rotate in a very simplistic and easy to follow way that will allow ALL the guild members to be fully participating in guild events.

Are you always open for new recruits or do you want to keep a certain guild size?
Yes we are always looking for good people to join our ranks. Take notice how I said good people and not skilled player. Finding a good person that fun to play with is tricky and much harder than a kid who thinks he or she is a skilled player. As long as we are all having fun playing our game, skill and knowledge will come in time.

Age Requirement?
I prefer 18+, we do accept younger if they can prove they have the maturity we require in all our members. I think the average age in the guild is 25+; we also have members who are also much older.

Guild size?
Right now we have about 60 members for SWTOR I think. Over the years Vendetta has had a large presence in many games such as Warhammer Online, Aion, Dark fall, WoW, and now Rift. Our website shows we have 705 active members, and 4,215 that are registered that are not active at this time.

What makes your guild stand out from everyone else? What makes your guild unique?
One thing that separates Vendetta from other guilds is the desire for casual quality players. Players who enjoy purely PvE content, crafters, and others. I believe that to have the best possible guild that we can, that a guild must cover all aspects of game content.
SWTOR Vendetta will also never make your respec your talent tree, or change the way you play to fit the guilds needs. We do not pay your monthly fee, and I feel we have no right to tell you how to play.
The most important thing is our number one goal is to have FUN. I do not care about loot, or being the first guild to down any boss. It not worth risking fun to recruit geared skilled players that are rude, and disrespectful just to be the best. Vendetta is a guild in a game, and should be seen as much. I do not want anyone to feel they are logging in to their 2end job. I want you to log in to have a hell of a night playing with your friends.

How do you spend your time until release? Do you know each other in real life or do you spend a lot of time on forums?
We are very active on our website, and website forums and many of us are currently playing Rift. We are a guild that has been around for over 6 years. Many of us may not know each other in real life but we feel as if we are a family.

What Other Games are you currently playing as a guild?
Right now Arcadiea is leading Vendetta in Rift.

If somebody is interested now how and where can they apply for membership?
Anyone is welcome to apply to join from our website at www.GuildVendetta.com. You only need to register and fill out an application; there is a link on the front page.

Republic Trooper checks in from PAX

RepublicTrooper.com is at PAX Prime and they are updating their site with exciting first impressions from the events. First up is a great article of the Trooper class based on their hands-on experience of the game at PAX.

If you’re interested in playing a Trooper, learning more about the Trooper or just learning more about the game, then this is worth the read and then some.

Highlights:
“From the beginning Bioware has gone with what it has calls “stylized realism” for the overall art style of the game. While parallels can be drawn between the feel of the TOR’s graphics and that of other titles already on the market, I believe that those run more in the vein of color palette than actual art style. The game clearly has its own unique and brilliantly clean look about it.”

Oooo, this is the kind of stuff we like to hear. Don’t just tell us “it’s good”; give us details!

They go on to talk about world scope, how the game compares to many other MMOs in first impressions, the ease of play, quality of the demo build, and more. It’s exclusive and good stuff. A good summary of their impressions article is best put in their own words, “The tone and style mix very well to give TOR a distinctly unique, but very Star Wars feel.”

Check out the full story for yourself here.

Let's Blame Walt Disney For the Inferior Star Wars Prequel Trilogy!

It seems we have Walt Disney, or more appropriate his corporation to blame for the relative poorness of the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy thanks to their forceful backing of a 1998 change in copyrighting law that saw the period of copyright protection extended to "the lifetime of the author plus 70 years" (having originally been just 28 years).

Because of that change, George Lucas was able to continue his vice like grip on the Star Wars universe, like a beardy Darth Vader, only with more success in the taking-over-the-galaxy stakes.

According to the excellent, enigmatic CP Grey:
George Lucas was completely within his rights to make those movies into the sterile, toy-marketing vehicles they were. He owned Darth Vader and could tell the origin story as he wished – and that’s the only version you’ll ever get to see.
He goes on to muse about what fantasy world delights would be possible if those laws had stuck to the original period of 28 years:

In 2011 the whole of the original Star Wars trilogy – all of its artwork, its characters, its music – would have left copyright protection and been available to aspiring directors and writers to build upon and make their own versions of.

There would be a treasure trove of new Star Wars stories for fans to enjoy.
But as CP Grey points out in conclusion, unless the copyright laws change once more, taking the power away from corporations (and authors of course) after a more reasonable time period, noone else will ever be able to tell the Darth Vader story, or the Yoda and Boba Fett prequels that deserves to be made. But then again, noone else will ever be able to give JarJar Binks his own film either, so I suppose it's swings and round-abouts.

Here's CP Grey's take on copyright law in full:

Who knew learning about copyright could be so damn interesting?!

PAX Prime 2011: Open World PvP Announced

Another big announcement from the BioWare Sunday panel at PAX was Open World PvP on the ice planet Ilum featuring a war torn battlefield where players take down turrets to invade the enemy base.

While is has been mention before that there would be some kind of open world PvP, it's the first time it was addressed by BioWare officially.

Here is a rundown:

  • Open world pvp: Ilum first. Objectives, bases to capture.
  • Players can take over turrets
  • Side that gets control will get Valor and other things.

Ask A Jedi uploaded a video of the big reveal:

Game testing weekends begin next week – September 2nd!

You properly already head it, but BioWare revealed that the Beta Testing Weekends are beginning on September 2nd for a select few who registered on the game's website. This news was announced earlier today at PAX Prime, including the fact that even those who didn't pre-order can have an equal chance to participate.

That's next weekend guys!

Senior Live Producer Blaine Christine told the crowd that they will be adding a brand new testing server and inviting a whole new group of people, who haven't been testing before. He also mentioned that if you don’t get in next weekend “you should be getting in very soon.”

Another Update on the Star Wars Collection Blu-Ray

The release date is now so close I can almost taste it, and following last week's revelations surrounding the specifics of the Blu-ray extras, we now have a little more detail as to what we will be getting when the collection arrives on shelves next month.

So, here's a handy list of stuff we now know, thanks to TheDigitalBits and StarWars.com:

  1. The image size has been increased
According to TheDigitalBits, the original DVDs of the Prequel Trilogy used a reduced frame size thanks to the limitations of technology at the time, and that has now been addressed, as the images below indicate. The first is of the DVD image, and the second of the new Blu-ray: the size difference may not be huge, but it is definitely noticeable.

2. The image quality of the Prequels will naturally be bettered thanks to improvements in the technology of transferring from the source. This will also hopefully deal with the offputting and unnecessary edge-enhancement and colour issues that blemished the previous Episode I DVD presentation.

3. The Original Trilogy transfer will improve on the 2004 DVD releases.

And in fact, there have been a number of small visual fixes that will deal with infamous glitches from previous releases. Crucially, the transfer was meticulously worked on, by a number of different parties to ensure as much was fixed as possible:
"It went through three phases of QC (quality control) processes," describes Diane Caliva, Production Manager for Media Operations at ILM. "In addition to Lucasfilm reviewing, there were outside companies hired as well. The first was Blu-focus/THX QCing our masters. Then it went through Deluxe and their QC process. And at last was the emulation phase, by the Deluxe team . We would get 'kickback notes', and then Dorne and our team we would assess the shots, and go in and clean up the files."

4. The Original Trilogy theatrical cuts won't be included.

Sucks, right?

5. Light-sabers will be the right colour again.

One gripe that surfaces again and again is that in earlier releases, the light-sabers on screen had been dimmed, which robbed them of their white-hot cores and generally made them look a little bit piss-poor. This, mercifully, has been fixed:
"We're trying to get back to the intention of the original film experience," says Dorne Huebler, an Associate Visual Effects Supervisor at ILM. "That's really what's going on with the lightsabers. You want that hot white core, and it was just right for film, but on video, that was dampened."
And here's the perfect example of what Huebler is talking about, first up is the DVD, followed by the fixed version on the new blu-ray:

6. Yoda will be replaced.

Okay, so not entirely, but the original puppet will definitely be replaced with a CGI version, presumably for added "realism". Here's a clip of the new addition to the Star Wars family:

So there we have it, all exciting stuff, and based on what those lucky enough to see footage so far have said, the blu-ray release looks likely to be the fitting tribute and celebration that the two trilogies deserve.

Will you be buying?

PAX Prime 2011: Gabe Amatangelo interview

The Totally Rad Show has uploaded an interview with with Lead PVP and Endgame Content Producer Gabe Amatangelo (My god he has a long title these days).

The interview contains a lot reconfirming stuff, but also has some new info on social mechanics in the game, that BioWare is working on right now. Basically we can expect to see stuff like Space Station Hubs to gather your team before you jump into Flashpoints or Operations. Not a bad idea that I actually like  rather than LFG+Teleport type approaches many other MMORPG's use. Though he did mention they may look at queuing if needed after launch

Seasoned WoW player Alex Albrecht reviews the upcoming Star Wars MMORPG, The Old Republic. But what we really are interested in is the specially-created endgame content, and we've got all the details!

SWTOR vs. WoW – How They’re Similar, and How They’re Not (Infographic)

We often compare SWTOR With World of Warcraft. Some might ague that this is wrong as it is two different games in two different settings. While I agree with that argument, it's only fair to say that World of Warcraft is the dominating MMORPG in the world and there for the only game to compare against when we talk new MMO's, and there is no question that these two games will come head-to-head in the MMO battle of the decade.

Gamefront.com has put together this chart showing some prevalent features and which of the two titles possess them. Check it out:

Pax Prime 2011: Sith Sorceror PvP Gameplay

Darthhater captured some Alderaan Warzone PvP action showing some Sith Sorceror PvP Gameplay in SWTOR.

If you pay attention to the movie, it looks like he only use the same two skills over and over. This is not the case though - He uses every skill that's available to him. It's just that they all have some kind of lightning animation, so they all look the same.

Madness spec almost gets worse higher up in the talent tree. A lot of people will just spam Force Lightning (3s channel, dd/snare,power return, two hand anim) and then a bunch of instants when they are up.

I still think it looks fun, especially with Corruption hybrid spec. Check it out below:

Jedi Knight Vs Sith Inquisitor Video = EPIC!

The boys over at TGN.TV are hard at work making SWTOR videos pre-launch. They just released their first installment of the new "Versus" series in which Advanced Classes get compared side by side in a "Deadliest Warrior" type of format. The graphics were made from scratch by the team at Red Rancor (a fellow SWTOR Fansite) and the intro music was custom made by Music Drake. I hope that they make one of these videos for every advanced class, especially Smuggler and Imperial Agent :) Let us know in the comments below what classes you want to see pitted against each other in the future episodes. Do you think that the Guardian would easily take down the Sorcerer 1v1? It is hard to tell pre-launch, but sure is fun to speculate. Enjoy the video below friends!

Dr. Ray Muzyka: We are Beta Testing the crap out of SWTOR

pcgamer.com spoke to Bioware co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka at Gamescom this year about Bioware’s impressive lineup of upcoming games. Apparently BioWare are “testing the crap” out of Star Wars: The Old Republic, trying to squash every bug and glitch that they can find in TOR’s enormous world before it’s eventually released.

Intergalactic Intel: Community

Looking for Friends!

Rafe is a 20 year old, who lives in Tennessee. He plays complex characters and always challenges people to do their best. Zach is a college senior in digital animation, from California, his nick name Heal-bitch-2000. Gene is single mother of three. She spends her time in Stormwind recruiting for her guild while working full time. What do these people have in common? Every week we’re willing to sit down in front of a computer

The key to having fun with any MMO, or any game for that matter, is community. Everyone starts off with the one real life friend on their buddy list. Maybe one or two people they’ve been introduced with. But usually they are on their own. While not a bad way to start an MMO, but when I tell people you should try an MMO. I really mean is gather a group of friends and start playing with them. They can be from anywhere. They could be previous games, co-workers, family members…well maybe not family members, but start with a group. This is even more important with new MMO’s like The Old Republic.

Personally, I have a group I’m starting The Old Republic with. A bunch of people from my University are excited for the game. Though I’m not sure how safe the Galactic Republic will be with an ex-radio host, a retail employee and a college dean…Back on topic! Community! Choosing who you surround yourself with is up to you. Do you want a competitive group? Causal? PvE? PvP? Staying interested in the game is making sure you have something to keep you interested, but making sure you have friends to play with you is far more important from personal experience.

Without a community, you’re the loaner. The wondering mercenary in the digital world. For many people this is a choice, while others have yet to be introduced to the right group, and some are from a result of poor choices. Many people are content with being alone. I, personally, am never okay flying solo. There are some interesting characters on the internet. One of my favorites is a druid on Stormrage named Treefingerz. A thirty something, drunk veteran who makes any mundane task hysterical. It’s just like the first day in a new school. You’ll get picked on, someone might stand up for you, but at the end of the week hopefully you’ve made some new friends.

But what are communities to the more hard core crowd? Laughs are one thing but what about killing bosses? With new games, or expansions having a strong community is mandatory for hard core players. Having allies on the same time schedule helps a lot. Having allies who only want to progress will part with an item for cheaper than it should be or even for free…use that advice on your own warning.

So as we tune our lightsabers, polish our blaster pistols, and install that tiny disco ball in our starships, take a trip to a fan site. Check out Reddit, or even go to the official site. Get your group together before this epic war begins. Trust me everyone needs a Chewbacca, by their side. Remember games are only as fun as you, and your community allow them to be

BioWare: The Old Republic will be "one of the biggest launches ever in the history of gaming"

Eurogamer explains how EA is waiting to make the announcement of a release date for when they are sure the game is ready to “pull the trigger” after they spoke with them at Gamescon last week.

BioWare co-founder Dr. Greg Zeschuk explained that it was vital from day one - whenever that may be - to ensure the game was "available, reliable, [and] really solid".

He said: "We're doing our very best to get it out as fast as we can. With a game like this, getting it all right, getting all the server stuff right is just as important as getting the game right."

Thousands of people are waiting to play the game and while we are all super excited to finally have it for ourselves, we share the sentiments that we don’t want a launch until it’s properly prepped and ready to go. But just how much longer will that be?

BioWare says this will be one of the biggest launches of history and they assure fans that they are working their hardest to get the game out as fast as they can.

From Eurogamer:
“Despite producing some of the biggest franchises in gaming, Zeschuk admitted SWTOR was "kinda daunting", adding: "This game's launch is going to be one of the biggest launches ever in the history of gaming.”

This is more than just waiting on a great game; we might be seeing video game history happening right before our eyes.

Classes, Advanced Classes and Roles

We stumbled across this great photo from Star Wars MMO Leveling Guide that shows the classes, advances classes and roles. It’s a great visual although we don’t really agree with the class popularity and faction popularity though.

As this photo shows, there is the complete breakdown for each class, including what their role is and the weapons that they get and more. If you still were not sure what you wanted to play, this little guide rocks for helping you get the perfect visual and helping you to figure out what class is the best choice for your needs.

So what do you think? Does this change what you had in mind to play or solidify the choice you had already made?
