Star Wars PlayStation Evolution (1995-2017)

You know how I love talking about the evolution of Star Wars games here. There have been so many games to come out since 1982 with Star Wars themes. We continue to love them, play them, and reminisce on them even today. For today’s post, I’ve found a little gem focused on a specific type of Star Wars game – the PlayStation platform. We have had Star Wars themed games for the PlayStation since 1995. In this video from PSNext, we can see the full evolution of Star Wars games for the this platform – from those early days in 1995 (when I was just a girl) to as recently as 2017. What will the future hold for PlayStation and Star Wars? Only time will tell. In the meantime, check out this video for a recap of all the Star Wars games PlayStaion has brought to us over the years….

Is BioWare on a Steady Decline?

BioWare has a long history in gaming as we know it today. They carry claims to fame like Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic. They have been a staple in the gaming community for a very long time. Some of your favorite titles have probably been from BioWare (I know mine have), but will this last? Can we count on BioWare to keep giving us blockbusters that change our lives and melt our hearts? Can we keep expecting fabulous, monumental, memorable games? Or are there days numbered? However, in the past ten years, there have been some big changes for BioWare – the same as there has been in the gaming industry in general. Now we have a new release – Anthem – and for many, it is definitely a disappointment. Kat Bailey, from US Gamer has a few theories on why this happened, and how it’s been…

ODYSSEY: A Star Wars Story – Fan Film

Odyssey has been a project in the works for over two years! It was a labor of love, talent, and hard work for sure. They have done a truly amazing job with this one. Honestly, it’s so above caliber that I almost don’t want to call it a “fan film” (and you guys know how much I love my fan films). Ever wondered what it would be like to see stormtroopers in a film like Saving Private Ryan? Well, this fan film is as close as you can get. This film is set in the Star Wars universe and it’s all about a war, and follows the life of a young rebel named Quinn on his first mission with the Odyssey Squadron. It has dramatic and uplifting music, great costumes (Rebel and Imperial uniforms that look professionally-made), great stories, and realistic acting. It ticks all the boxes for a really…

Force Ghost: Why Star Wars Galaxies Refuses to Die

Star Wars Galaxies – it’s the game that will not go quietly into the night. We have written on it many times here and that’s partly because we know the readers (at least a lot of you) are big fans. Were its official servers not shuttered in 2011, Star Wars Galaxies would be turning 15 years old this month. Of all the Star Wars games to get the axe, this one is probably mourned the most. The MMO still holds a strong community and fanbase, as you will know from our posts here, or if you’re one of those fans. That is why it lended itself to an emulator to keep it going. Rather than dying a slow death in the canceled MMO graveyard, SWG refuses to die. Force Ghost has some theories as to why, which they cover in this article. It’s a very long piece that digs into…

REPLAYING THE CLASSICS: STAR WARS: BOUNTY HUNTER

In the latest episode of Replaying the Classics, StarWars.com takes us back to Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. This is another game that I actually played a lot of back in the day so I was happy to see them covering this one. Here’s what they have to say: ” In terms of narrative and presentation, Bounty Hunter delivers the goods. It’s got high-quality cinematics rendered by the special-effects wizards at Industrial Light & Magic; it’s got original music by Jeremy Soule, who later composed the original score for Knights of the Old Republic (2003); and it tells a story that adds color and depth to some of Jango Fett’s best dialogue in Episode II. “ I can pretty much agree to that and most of what they say in this retro play-through, actually. From a gameplay perspective, Jango has dual blaster pistols and he can rapid-fire them. You can also lock onto targets so…

Star Wars – Battle of Sullust – Fan-Film

Ah, fan films… one thing that brings the Star Wars community leap years ahead of other fanatics. We love our Star Wars stories, games, and lore. And it shows in the sheer amount of fan films that are out there, along with the production quality and the time that gets put into making them. In Battle of Sullust, we get to experience an awesome fan film with great CGI, music, story and backdrops. It definitely feels like a fan film, but this isn’t a bad thing, since if you’ve been a regular here, you know I love them. This story takes place moments before the events in Star Wars The Clone Wars: Nightsisters. Anakin Skywalker joins in the battle for Sullust against the Separatists, offering help to the soldiers of the 144th Legion after they were stranded on the battlefield after the death of their general. This battle is important…

Star Wars Galaxies and City of Heroes Could Return if New Copyright Law Passes

I have so many fond memories of Star Wars Galaxies and City of Heroes. I know many of you who read our site played SWG as well. I’m not sure if any of you played City of Heroes/ City of Villains but I was also a big fan of those. We have long lamented the fact that SWG is gone forever, but new changes to copyright law could mean its return, along with other abandoned online games. The U.S. Copyright Office is considering a rule change that would loosen the restrictions governing emulations and reproductions of abandoned online games. We already know we have SWGEmu, but also that the creators of it have had to fight along the way, and worry that they might be shut down. This new copyright law would change that. Since the law was meant to protect the theft of intellectual property, the argument is made that once…

It has been over a year since we found out a new Star Wars series was coming from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. It’s also an opportunity for us to see something a bit different from the current trilogy timeline. We can see other parts of the Star Wars universe and this is fun and exciting for fans. So, there’s two new Star Wars trilogies on the way – and they’ll both look to cover new corners of the universe post-Star Wars 9. The original StarWars.com announcement outlined that “These new films will be separate from both the episodic Skywalker saga and the recently-announced trilogy being developed by Rian Johnson.” Are you…

In Memorium: Star Wars Galaxies

Who remembers Star Wars Galaxies? We have talked about this game at length here on the site and it has a bit of a bittersweet tale as it was the most popular Star Wars game at the time that we started this site, in anticipation of Star Wars The Old Republic getting released. Many predicted SWG getting shut down with the new Star Wars MMO coming out, but we still hoped it wouldn’t be the case. Isn’t our world big enough for both? Alas, the doors closed on SWG and it is now only available from the SWGEmu, which we gave also written about extensively here, but if you’re looking to revisit SWG, you may like this post from ReforgedGaming.org. From the post: ” If you’re one of the few that has never heard of Galaxies, you may be more familiar with the title that “replaced” it. Star Wars: The…
