Star Wars: Episode VII

Disney’s Possible Smoke and Mirrors Campaign

If you’ve followed Lucasfilm/LucasArts in the past, you know they go to great lengths to hide their story and plot when new films are coming out. Some of the crew of the original films even said they never got the full script – only the parts that applied to them – so no one knew the full story. The new films are operating on the same level of secrecy and this means it’s difficult to find anything but rumors when it comes to the making of the films. However, since rumors abound and leaks hit Episode 7 just months before it was revealed, some wonder if Disney is operating a campaign to be one step ahead of potential leaks. So some question the number of leaks coming out now and the potential that Disney could be running their own smoke and mirrors campaign to throw people off track. One of…

Star Wars: The Force Awakens crosses $2 billion worldwide

Well, now they’ve done it! We knew it was coming and the newest film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has now officially made $2 billion in the box office worldwide. This makes it only the third film in history to ever hit that number. The other two movies to make more than $2 billion in the box office were Titanic at $2.19 billion and Avatar at $2.79 billion. This is a huge milestone for the film, but not really a surprising one. On Friday, Disney announced The Force Awakens had made $900 million domestically, becoming the only film in history to hit that number. The Star Wars franchise has been and will likely remain incredibly popular for many generations. So while this is a historic moment for Disney, there’s a good chance the next films will break records too. “This is a historic moment for Star Wars, for Lucasfilm, and for Disney, and all of us here are…

Captain Phasma Will Return to the New Star Wars Trilogy

Gwendoline Christie says Captain Phasma is not gone for good when she confirms the character she plays in The Force Awakens will be returning. Christie confirmed on the 2016 SAG Awards red carpet that her character will be returning. In a way, it’s not a huge surprise since it seems odd to think Disney would play up that character so much just to off her in the first film. No, I think we all suspected there would be more of Captain Phasma to come. Still, having it officially confirmed is fun. “I will be in the next Star Wars movie. I think that’s an exclusive, actually,” the actress told People Magazine. From the earliest marketing days for the newest film, Captain Phasma was a hit. The character resonated with so many people. She was intimidating. She was fierce. She was interesting. So many fans were disappointed there wasn’t more of her seen in the…

Carrie Fisher Tells Her Haters to Shove It

My body is my brain bag, it hauls me around to those places & in front of faces where theres something to say or see pic.twitter.com/T2TXiEyl17 — Carrie Fisher (@carrieffisher) December 29, 2015 As more and more people see the new Star Wars film, one actor in particular is getting more criticism than any other. It seems to have come as a surprise to some people that Carrie Fisher has aged. *sarcastic gasp* Can you believe that? How dare she get older like every other human in history? The biggest critique seems to be not just that Fisher has aged, but that she has not “aged well”. What that means exactly is anyone’s guess. Few similar comments have been made about her returning co–stars Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill. Some might say this is a sexist double standard. It seems men are allowed to age in this society but women…

Star Wars The Force Awakens Nets $1B in 12 Days, Gains Domestic Record

Disney said last Sunday that its blockbuster  hit Star Wars: The Force Awakens broke the $1 billion mark around the world faster than any other film in history. It broke the previous record holder, “Jurassic World” by one day, earning $1 billion in just 12 days. It had the biggest Christmas day at the box office, and the biggest second weekend at $153.5 million. After just 10 days, it has become the fifth biggest film in U.S. box office history. It’s really not a surprise to anyone that this film is setting records already, is it? I mean, it doesn’t take a genius to predict that, with the popularity of the Star Wars franchise, the hype leading up to this premiere and the sheer excitement from fans across the globe, this was going to be a hit. It was also a good sign when the first tickets went on sale and crashed…

While we still know very little about the plot, the latest TV spot and other marketing tells us a bit more.
