With the VR wars in full swing, Sony fell somewhat behind as far as spectacular and hype-filled announcements were concerned at least, but they were apparently only squaring off to release this one: it looks like there will be a Star Wars Battlefront experience coming to Sony's PlayStation VR as a fruit of the partnership between EA and Sony and as one of the 50 games which will be available for the VR device come its October 2016 release. The announcement was made at Sony's GDC presentation which focused on the VR headset.

Now then, as the expression "Star Wars battlefront experience" clues us in, it's not an actual game we're looking at, rather something described as "a cinematic gaming experience" by Sony Computer Entertainment's Andrew House. House also said that there would be no shortage of content for the upcoming VR platform, given how some 230 developers are already working on titles destined for it.

In the same breath, the company also made public the price of the VR headset, which will apparently be set to $400 in the US, EUR399 in Europe and £349 in the UK.

The Star Wars universe is no stranger to VR experiments and that's just fine indeed: on March 15, a Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine trailer featuring a cinematic VR experiment put together by Industrial Light and Magic was leaked, and although this one was for Valve's HTC Vive, it gave us a glimpse of what we can expect to see from Sony and their PlayStation VR.

Launched in November last year, Star Wars: Battlefront has thus far shattered all sales expectations, having shipped more than 13 million copies worldwide. The game is still very much abreast of player interest, as it has multiple sequels developed right now and a solid DLC-schedule, made public recently, a schedule which is apparently aiming to keep the game relevant well beyond 2016.
