Intergalactic Intel: The trooper

“So how was the weekend beta?” My friend Vash was always had questions about The Old Republic though he had no intention of playing. “Crowded. A lot of trash talking. An average day in any other game really.” “So what class did you play for your blog?” “The class you wanted to play after seeing the “Hope” trailer. Trooper.” Welcome back to another installment of Intergalactic Intel. This week we’re talking about the trooper. A powerful ranged class for the Galactic Republic. Two reminders before we begin I’m looking for a co-host for my new Old Republic podcast, and these reviews are only levels 1-16 so classes may change drastically to level 50. Story: Maggot! Should have been the first words I received when I loaded in. Your the newest member of an infantry squad known as Havoc. The most elite squad in the entire Galactic Republic. You could swear…

Intergalactic Intel: Imperial Agent

Image by Tony Vassallo “Your article on the consular is on Reddit.” I turned to my brother with awe. I had posted the blog before; only to have it downvoted into oblivion. “What are they saying?” My curiosity had been grabbed. “They want the Imperial Agent.” “Didn’t I specifically say that was next week’s article?” Welcome back to this week’s Intergalactic Intel on the Imperial Agent. Before we begin I’d like to make a few disclaimers I didn’t put in last week’s article. As anjunaxbeats from reddit stated, “Take every review you read with a truck load of salt.” I’m only allowed to discuss the classes from 1-16, the classes will play very differently at max level and change from build to build. With that being said let’s get into it the Imperial Agent. Story: Intergalactic Intel: Imperial Agent Thus you use trickery, lies and a few well placed blaster rounds…

Intergalctic Intel: Jedi Consular

“Republic or Empire?” I stared at my friend with a look that only a rage face could express. “What shirt am I wearing?” “Oh…Republic…” We stood in silence for a while. “What class?” “Consular. Jedi Sage to be exact.” Last week as many of you know the press NDA was lifted for levels 1-16 for The Old Republic testers. So this week we’ll be going over the Jedi Consular, and it’s advanced class the Jedi Sage. We’ll try and cover all of the classes before release, but there is a lot to do so let’s dive right in shall we? Story: The Jedi Consular’s story is rumored to be the best one in the game. The story starts you off by doing various padawon duties, until your master falls ill and you find yourself thrown into the status of Jedi and stumble upon something much greater than you had anticipated….

Intergalactic Intel: Raiding

Intergalactic Intel: Raiding I heard a group of people enter my dorm room. I paid them no mind. I was focused. “What’s going on, on his screen?”“Dude I can’t even tell what’s going on.”“Ya, know I’m raiding here.” My annoyance was growing thin.“Wrong side Marth,” was screamed into my headphones. I quickly corrected it before killing my raid group.“Can you guys leave or be quiet? I need to concentrate.”“Sure, but what’s raiding?” Raiding is a form of end game play. As I mentioned last week in my PvP vs PvE article, it is one of the two options players have to do with their max level players, and at the moment is more popular than PvP in World of Warcaft, though requires a lot more preparation. The idea of raiding has many origins but was popularized during Everquest. Players group together in large groups of massive numbers. In the…

Intergalactic Intel: PvP vs PvE

Intergalactic Intel: PvE vs PvP “Please it’s not even hard they don’t think for themselves. It’s the same thing every week!” “It’s not you even have to try. You just pick whatever class is flavor of the month and just win.” “Let’s ask Nigel.” “Ask me what?” “Which is harder? PvE or PvP?” For as long as I have played world of warcraft the question of which is harder, and more fun has always been an issue amongst the higher end players of the game. This week I’ll delve into my experience of with both forms of game play. Player versus environment, or PvE, is a form of play in which players do battle against enemies who have been programed by the developer. This usually includes quests, leveling and dungeons. But PvE truly becomes a challenge in raiding environments where users have to fight enemies that are far stronger than…

Intergalactic Intel: Choosing a Role

What should I play? Jedi ConsularGrowing up I never knew what I wanted to be. And as a twenty-two-year-old college senior I kind of have an idea. Choosing your role in a community is very difficult. You want to be able to support yourself and live happily while still being a good person. The same thing can be said about any game with a class system. Do you want to be the guy who charges in head first? Or do you want to be the one executing enemies? Or maybe you’re better off on the side lines supporting your allies? In MMO’s we have always run the classes by something known as the Holy Trinity; tanks, healers, and DPS. Tanks: people whose goal are to take damage and keep enemies off of their allies. Healers: people who support and make sure that their allies stay alive throughout the encounter. DPS…
