Star Wars Battlefront II – Patch 1.2 datamined

Here’s some stuff that was discovered by reddit user Heavyweighsthecrown  after spending a few hours in the game’s files with Frosty Editor – a game assets editor that’s also used to manipulate game files for mods. He Spent some hours looking at 3D meshes, cryptic command lines, colorful textures, and files named under some arcane system, and this is what he found… But first, a Disclaimer: I don’t know if people already knew this stuff 100% before this latest patch, or if this is new stuff. Also, everything here can easily be verified if you use Frosty Editor yourself to dive into the game files. There are actually 2 head models named “JangoFett”. But he’s without the helmet, and both look very alike. I don’t think they will be used in future models though. The more detailed head is probably the Clone Officer, and the slightly less detailed one is probably the background clones…

Electronic Arts downgraded by Morgan Stanley on disappointing ‘Star Wars’ Sales

Morgan Stanley downgraded Electronic Arts  from Overweight to Equalweight with a price target of $120.00 (from $126.00). Analyst Brian Nowak comments: “Recent disappointing Star Wars Battlefront 2 third party data (NPD and GfK ) cause us to lower our Star Wars unit estimate from 13mn in F3Q to 10mn. These lower unit expectations flow down to the bottom line.” I find this quite interesting as Star Wars: Battlefront was the most downloaded playstation game in december 2017.  Most analysts also remains optimistic. Of the 19 brokerages covering EA, 16 rate the shares a “buy” or “strong buy.” In addition, EA’s average 12-month price target of $128.52 represents a 16% premium from the stock’s current perch, and is in uncharted territory for the shares. This implies that more downgrades and price-target cuts could be on the horizon. Brian Nowak also had some thoughts on the rollout of “Star Wars Battlefront 2” microtransactions: It’s unlikely…

Latest Star Wars: Battlefront DLC, solves Plot hole in “The Last Jedi”

The guys over at NME has apparently found that the latest downloadable content for Star Wars: Battlefront II answers some of the questions raised during Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Check it out: An apparent plot hole in Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been solved in the downloadable content (DLC) for Star Wars: Battlefront II. Fans were left confused after the opening sequence of The Last Jedi showed Resistance fighters planting bombs inside the First Order’s Dreadnought ship, without offering any prior explanation as to how they knew where to leave the explosive arsenal. But that very question has now been solved by Battlefront II’s ‘Resurrection’ DLC – and it makes a whole load of sense. Battlefront II‘s DLC reveals that game protagonist Iden Versio and her daughters obtained the plans to the Dreadnought and “transferred” them to General Leia Organa in an attempt to help the Resistance. In turn, this meant that…

Battlefront 2 Microtransactions Are Gone – For Now

Players may have won the spat with EA over microtransactions in Battlefront II, but it’s not over. EA and DICE announced they would temporarily turn off the feature and many players rejoiced, counting this one a victory. However, the announcement made it very clear that loot boxes would be returning at some point in the future. “The ability to purchase crystals in-game will become available at a later date, only after we’ve made changes to the game,” said the statement. “We’ll share more details as we work through this.” So, this brings forth a couple of questions: How could they bring this back in a way that won’t create outrage? How will they recover from the death of microtransactions? EA stated in an SEC filing that, “this change is not expected to have a material impact on EA’s fiscal year 2018 financial guidance,” but it doesn’t seem to make a…

Star Wars Video Game Faces Gambling Charges

By now, you know all about the drama of EA’s Battlfront II after they announced the loot box system that would come with the game. This meant that in addition to the $60-80 you would pay for the base game, you could also spend more money on digital “boxes” that have a chance of giving you random benefits. You don’t know what’s in these boxes, it could be a dud like a random emote for your character. However, the boxes do have a chance of giving you something really great. This means the temptation to continue buying boxes until you get the goodies you want is very high. Even if you don’t get a dud, you may still be tempted to continue buying more boxes and continue getting more goodies to help you level up. You can get abilities to make you stronger, such as 100 percent invisibility flight on Boba Fett….

Petition to Revoke EA’s Star Wars License

We all know how upset players have been with EA over the controversial launches of both Star Wars Battlefront I and II. When we all thought Battlefront II was going to be better, the redeeming game even, they threw a curveball and added loot crates. There was such an uproar over that, they actually had to suspend the idea (at least for now). For many Star Wars gamer fans, this was the last straw. EA has the rights to Star Wars games but it would seem they keep fumbling the ball with one mistake after another and the fans are the ones suffering. That’s why there is now a petition asking Lucasfilm to revoke EA’s license for making Star Wars games. Right now, it’s an exclusive license which means no other companies can make Star Wars games. So far, over 60,000 people have signed the petition and it’s still climbing. What…

EA is investigating the latency issue in Star Wars: Battelfront 2

If you have been playing Star Wars: Battlefront 2 lately, you might have been experiencing lag lately. If you haven’t, below is a video of what I am talking about. DICE and EA are not to eager to speak out though. A one sentence response is not normal for a game that just went live.  As one player responded: “The lag is caused by gamers shutting the door to hard as they quit playing for good, the vacuum as it closes Sucks you back a few seconds and will be fixed when the last few remaining players have gone.” A bit hard if you ask me, as the game is not half as bad as people like it to be. Anyways, here is the news: Hello, We are aware of the issues that lead players to experience latencies on the game servers. We are currently investigating and will update you as…

EA Is Now Ironically Stuck With $60 ‘Battlefront 2’ And No Good Way To Re-Monetize It

forbes.com had an interesting article the other day, regarding how EA now is “stuck” with a game they can’t monetize as they want to. Here’s a summary of some of the points: Battlefront got backlash for having a $50 season pass and launching with barebones content. In Star Wars Battlefront 2 they changed the system and promised free DLC while using microtransactions and loot-boxes to monetize the game. Thanks to the backlash, they have removed microtransactions . . . but they’ve stated that they’re planning on reinstating them. If they do bring back microtransactions tied to progression then they will still face backlash. If they bring back lootboxes with only cosmetic items they’ll still draw ire. They’ve already enticed responses from multiple governments on the issues of lootboxes. That leaves them with really only one path forwards that won’t bring back a ton of backlash: Implementing an online store with microtransactions…

Is the Battlefront 2 Campaign the Best Star Wars Story in Gaming?

There hasn’t been a great Star Wars game with a quality story since The Old Republic. Those of you who have been here with us since the beginning know that it’s been nearly 6 years now. Needless to say, we’re overdue a new game with a great story. Will Star Wars Battlefront be that game? Some have hoped for it but the first game didn’t measure up. So did DICE listen to the fans for the sequel? Some say yes. Time will tell for sure. Early access was given to a handful of gaming reviewers and from that, we ask the question: Is the story any good? Gamerevolution seems to think it was. From their preview of the game: “My time with the Star Wars Battlefront 2 campaign has shown there’s hope that Star Wars storytelling in video games isn’t dead.” Okay, I’m intrigued. Star Wars Battlefront II Multiplayer Review

When it comes to Star Wars Battlefront 2’s multiplayer mode, the fans had a lot of feedback to deliver to DICE. It would seem the developer may have taken some of this into consideration when it comes to making With a lot of early previews out, we got to see what some game reviewers think of the game before it was available to everyone on November 17th. We already know there is a big controversy around loot boxes, and the amount of time or money it will take to unlock everything. But what about the gameplay itself? What about the multiplayer modes and features? What about the modes and maps? Is there still a playable, enjoyable game in there, despite the complaints? This reviewer from Twinfinite seems to think so. They say, “We recently got some extensive hands-on time with the multiplayer, and what we found was a robust offering with…

The Microtransactions in Star Wars Battlefront 2 have been temporarily disabled

EA is temporarily pulling the microtransactions from Star Wars Battlefront II. This is probably due to the outcry in the community, and the little calculation we posted the other day. Star Wars Battlefront 2 Community Manager Apologizes for Angering Players

There has been a lot of drama in the Star Wars Battlefront 2 community in the past few days. Some of it was regarding a post that EA community manager Mat Everett made on Twitter that ticked a lot of people off. He says the tweet was “taken out of context” but many who had purchased the game believed he was insulting them over their complaints about the game. Like we said, drama! So, what actually went down? Star Wars: Battlefront 2 has been in the headlines a lot lately, and not for very good reasons, honestly. It was recently reported that it could take up to 40 hours to unlock even a single hero in the game without purchasing loot boxes, leaving players to feel like it’s a money sink. Some have criticized EA for what they are calling predatory microtransaction practices. In fact, the debate over this has become so…
