While we wait

Outer Rim Fan Film

You know how we love our Star Wars fan films but here’s one that stretches the imagination to show us what may have been happening to some people amidst the war between the Empire and the rebellion. While the main films focus on the action and all the heroes and villains there at ground zero, here’s a fan film that shows us what some everyday people might have been doing. Truth be told, many people living on the outer edge of the galaxy probably weren’t paying all that much attention to the battles going on. They were likely just going on about their daily business. Director Thomas R. Wood brings us the story of two doofuses who weren’t all that interested in the war going on around them. It’s a fun, humorous little short that’s been called the “Dude, Where’s My Car?” of Star Wars. The two friends are working…

Countdown – A Star Wars Fan Film

Here’s another great Star Wars fan film that went above and beyond to share their story. I’ll let you watch it to see what I mean by that statement, but for now, let’s move on to the story. In a desperate attempt to save the future, Xenia travels back in time to a pivotal moment in history–the untimely assassination of Senator Desera–hoping that by saving the senator, she can change the course of history for the better. It was great story, it has action, and the fight/lightsaber scenes are great. The acting is good and the dialogue isn’t stiff like with some fan films. Costumes and props are also nicely done. All in all, it hits all the marks for what I’d say makes a great film. You can tell a lot of time and dedication went into this which is part of what I love the most about Star…

Regrets of the Past – Star Wars Fan Film

I love Star Wars fan films, something you probably already know if you’ve been following the site for any length of time. There is no shortage of these films on the internet today but some far outside the others when it comes to quality, story, and all those other things that make a great film. Here’s one that is definitely worth the watch. A lot more work went into this than what we see with short films and it shows. It’s nearly an hour long and it had more than 150 people on the crew. Many working professionals put their own spare time into this project to make it possible for us to enjoy. It’s amazing and is truly a cut above many of the others we write about and share with you here on the site. This one deserves more views. So go ahead and pop some popcorn, or…

Star Wars: From the Shadows (A Fan Film)

To what lengths will two teens go to convince their superfan friend that they lived a Star Wars adventure? This fun, cute Star Wars fan film will answer that question. Drew Struckmeyer brings us “Star Wars: From the Shadows” and it’s a fun little short that’s worth your time to give a look. What’s it all about? Well, you really need to watch it for yourself to get the full experience but let me give you a little breakdown. It’s just over seven minutes long and tells a fun narrative of one guy trying to convince his young friend that he and another friend had a real life Star Wars experience. It starts off as the two play video games and young Wyatt says he “wishes” Star Wars was real. After stating that it’s “scientifically impossible” for that to happen in real life, Drew tells him a story he just can’t believe….

Star Wars: Rise of the Empire – A Star Wars Fan Film

An empire will rise. Join the rebels in the biggest battles across the galaxy in this epic Star Wars fan film. This is a really awesome fan film from BTV that you have to see for yourself. Created entirely in GTA V using mods, this was an exhaustive creation with over 125 shots and fx, Rise of the Empire is their biggest Grand Theft Auto machinima. This is absolutely stunning! Visually it’s bright and crisp. The story and cinematography are engaging. The sound effects and music are spot-on. This film will get you excited just the way a Star Wars film should. You’ll be on the edge of your seat to see what happens next. Personally, I’m a fan of machinima already. I think it takes a lot of creativity and they can be so much fun to watch but this one goes above and beyond most I have seen. It’s clean, it’s realistic,…

Survivors – Star Wars Fan film

It seems like December 2016 was the month of the fan film and we have another one for you to check out. Survivors, from Cinemage is a film that gets right to the action and suspense from the first scene. You’ll see a chase and a lightsaber fight all within the first minute. It really gets your Star Wars blood pumping to find out what happened and why. Who are the survivors? What are they surviving? Who will win this battle? Honestly, it might leave more questions than answers once you watch it all but personally, I loved how it whets the appetite and makes you want to see more. I hope they keep writing, keep acting, and keep filming. There’s nothing like true Star Wars fans to capture the spirit of the franchise and that’s part of what makes these fan films so much fun to watch. Even when they’re not…

Star Wars: Inquisition (A Fan Film)

A rural family’s patience is tested as the Jedi padawan they’ve been hiding for years is putting their family at increasing risk. With their father dead, and their crops not selling, it’s time to decide what to do. Evil comes knocking, and one Jedi finds you can’t hide forever. A coward can’t be a hero. This Star Wars fan film from ThePsychoJellyfish is a good watch. It attempts to bring a deeper story to the Star Wars universe. It comes in just over 13 minutes so it’s a quick watch. It’s a little slow in parts and some of the acting a little stiff in places, but all in all, it’s a great story and it’s produced well. It’s unique, shows the struggles real people would have in this position, and the price that is often paid for trying to do the right thing during a time of war. What happens when…

The negotiation goes south quickly when he realizes they aren’t telling him the truth and it only gets more interesting from there. A Lost Hope: Star Wars Fan Film

Speaking of fan films… you know how I love them and I have another fun little short for you to check out. It’s a tale of two brothers and how they learn about the Force, as well as how it develops in their Jedi training. So if you have a few minutes for a quick short, go ahead and check out A Lost Hope, the Star Wars fan film. You might find some of this is familiar and when you get to the end, you’ll see why but we’ll save all the spoilers and suggest you just go and watch it. Sure, you’ll notice some imperfections and we could be nit-picky and point those out but as someone who just loves to see the effort fans put into these, I’d rather not get too critical of it and instead just enjoy it for what it is. See for yourself here:…

Star Wars Fan film: Jar Jar’s End – An Anthology Story

Have you ever wondered what happened to Jar Jar Binks? One of the most disliked characters in Star Wars history had to have his story told to the very end and BlobVanDam has this parody story to explain it all to us. If you’ve been on the edge of your seat wondering what ever happened to good ole Jar Jar, then this is the video for you. You’ll get answers we know you’ve all been dying for, or at least someone is dying for. “How does Jar Jar Binks die? And why does C-3PO have a red arm in The Force Awakens? Find out this and more in this completely legitimate anthology story. No need to wait for Rogue One! If you enjoyed this video, please subscribe for more, and let me know what else you want to see in the comments below.” (This is a parody fan film and is in no way…

Star Wars Fan Film 2016: Renegade Kenobi

Here’s another Star Wars Fan Film that we really want to share with you. In Renegade Kenobi, Ben Kenobi’s mother encounters a notorious Sith Lord who wants to change the fate of the galaxy. The story is fun and creative, the film is well done for a fan film, and it definitely has a nice Star Wars feel to it. There’s also a fun little Easter egg in there around the 21:00 marker (or a bit after). The lightsaber blade and effects are good looking and were apparently done by hand in After Effects. Sounds like it took awhile but it does look really good. So we don’t want to ruin the story for you. It’s really best that you go ahead and experience it for yourself. You can watch below, as it’s not a super long film. Of course, fans always seem to have varied opinions on these fan…

Dark Jedi Revan’s Apprentice Fan Film

You know how we like our fan films around here and also how we love pointing out some of the best and sharing with you. Here’s a cool little video we came across that’s under seven minutes long but really pulls you into the story. It’s not perfect. It’s not professionally made, but it’s a good start and while they said this was just done for a school assignment, I’d love to see them make some more short films. They have a little something going here for just a student and some friend volunteers. So if you want something creative to pass a little time, we highly suggest you check it out. It’s a fun little fan film. Zoukmazing says of the video, “This was zero budget with no crew, and made for a visual effects uni assignment. I spent many sleepless nights to get this completed on time. Not made for…

STAR WARS : FORGOTTEN FORCE A Fan Film

You know how I feel about fan films. I’ve made that abundantly clear with each one I post here on the site. But now, we have a new one and this one’s great. We also talked briefly with Tim Johnson, Misunderstood Art Company, writer and director, about the film. You can learn more or follow updates at their Facebook page. Johnson says he made the film to honor his dad, Tony,  who passed away from cancer on June 19, 2011. It was released on June 19, 2016 on Father’s Day. It’s a wonderful tribute to a Star Wars fan and father and an all-around great film. We hope to see more shorts/films like this from the same crew in the future. Keep up the good work! So if you’re ready to check it out for yourself, here it is. Be sure to leave them a comment on the video or…

Wrath of the Sith: A Star Wars Fan Film

We love fan films here, or really anything done by Star Wars fans. It’s the premise this very site was founded on. We love Star Wars and we want to share news, thoughts, opinions, and more about Star Wars to other Star Wars fans. You don’t get any more in the spirit of that than with fan films. Even roughly-shot backyard productions can be a lot of fun to watch. They show how literally anyone can get into the world of Star Wars and make it come to life for them. However, with technology and the dedication of fans, we’re seeing more and more professional-grade fan films shot these days and that is definitely something to celebrate. So that’s exactly what we have for you today. Here’s another great fan film that would classify as a short. It’s just under 12 minutes long but it has a great, intriguing story,…

The Real Fans Of The Saga – A Star Wars Fan Reality Show

We love fan projects and this one looks like a great one. A fun look at four different passionate Star Wars fans and how their fandom effects not only family life but everyday life. Here is a very fun project that most Star Wars fans will find exciting. The Real Fans project was filmed at the start of 2015 and followed 4 completely different fans (that are friends)  to Celebration Anaheim all through well over a year (including leading up to The Force Awakens and after it’s release). Each Episode will be 15 – 30 mins (actual time per episode TBD after editing) and there will be approx 12 – 17 episodes total (again, TBD while editing) This will be the 3rd project that Filmmakers Cris Macht http://www.imdb.com/name/nm5277601/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 and Ian Vacek http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3051870/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 produced together. Fan Film: Star Wars: Amulet of Urlon

We love fan films here. This one is under 5 minutes so it’s not an extra long watch. You can sit down on a work break or in between playing or studying and give it a quick watch. We don’t want to go into too much detail about plot since it is such a short film. It’s far better to just watch it for yourself and get the full experience. That said, it’s an interesting and new story idea, the character is intriguing and the film is done well. There’s nice use of lighting and other effects and we hope to see more from them along these lines. If the music sounds familiar, you probably played Star Wars Commander and clothing and props were also very well done. All in all, it’s good stuff for a fan film. We’d love to see a longer version of this to carry out more of…

BAD PILOTS – Star Wars Fan Film

We love Star Wars fan films. If you are a Star Wars fan, there’s a good chance you love fan films too. They really speak to the fan inside all of us and often bring out the details of the original films we love the most. This is why we love sharing them with you so much. Even the silly, the dark, and the parodies will make you smile when you think of how they remind you of the films that started it all. So with that in mind, here’s another great, fun fan film: Bad Pilots. It’s Episode 1: Holy Guacamole and it’s so worth the watch. At just about 30 minutes long, it’s like a quick episode of a sitcom and we’re hoping there’s more to come after Ep 1 because this was a lot of fun. “Three useless Tie Fighter Pilots feel the full power of the…

EXILE – A STAR WARS FAN FILM (2016)

You know we love Star Wars fan films. It’s probably obvious from the fact that we post about them nearly every time we find them. So here’s another and it’s definitely worth the watch. This is Exile Episode 1, a Star Wars Fan Film 2016. The production quality is great on this one and the story interesting. Some may think certain themes steer a little from the traditional feel of Star Wars but as a fan film, I think they get a little leeway for such things. If you love Star Wars and you love fan films, this is just one more to add to your watch list. ““Jedi around the galaxy are being viciously hunted and killed by the evil Galactic Empire. Aware of the imminent danger, Jedi Master Boemana Tora and her Padawan Makal Lori, flee to the outer rim systems close to the planet of Lothal.” So…

Do or Do Not. There Is No Try

One of the most iconic quotes from Star Wars is this one from Yoda himself: “Do or Do Not. There Is No Try”  Would you like to learn more about Yoda? This Yoda documentary by Jamie Benning (@jamieswb) is just what you need. The story of how Yoda was brought to life on the big screen is really interesting and a lot of fun. This is well worth the watch if you’re a fan at all.  Here’s a little about the project from Jamie: “During the production of my Jabba documentary short, Slimy Piece of Worm Ridden Filth, I was put in contact with Toby Philpott’s colleague and Jabba’s right hand man. Literally, his right hand man, puppeteer Dave Barclay. Dave helped us, along with Toby (Jabba’s left arm), Mike Edmonds (tail) and John Coppinger (animatronic engineer) to reconstruct just how it was inside that filthy Hutt. And of course…

DARTH MAUL: Apprentice – A Star Wars Fan-Film

Here we have an awesome Star Wars fan film for you. This is a non-profit, unofficially fan film that was created just for fun but we gotta say, it’s one of the best we’ve seen so far. The running time is under 20 minutes so it’s a fairly quick watch that packs a big punch. It’s creative, well acted, has great sound and a professional quality look and feel. It also has a good story that we can really get into. If you’re a fan of Darth Maul, we really think you’ll love it. It even has a lightsaber duel in the first four minutes and it just gets even better after that. Awesome! The quality is top-notch and the excitement is high level and the suspense is intense. The musical background plays this all up even more and all in all, it’s just a fantastic short story. It will…

Star Wars Fan Film: Retribution

It’ll be a while until the next Star Wars movie hits theaters, so in the meantime Star Wars fans can watch a half-hour movie created by… a college football player. Called Retribution, the film was written and directed by Georgia University student Chris Conley, who started work on the short video last November. While Retribution doesn’t have the same cast and budget of actual Star Wars movies, it’s actually quite good, even though it was filmed in Conley’s University surroundings. With a simple plot, decent sound and visual effects as well as plenty of shooting and fighting (light saber action included), Retribution shows what can be done with the right amount of Star Wars passion and proper gear. Published on YouTube on Saturday, Retribution has already passed 200,000 views and it’s likely the number will go up as more Star Wars fans discover it. You can watch the fan-made flick…
