Daniel Erickson is “Actively looking for new opportunities”

We learned in the past that making assumptions based on a person’s LinkedIn profile is not always the best idea. Some people take a little thing such as change of job description and blow it into something it’s not.

However, if you take a look at Daniel Erickson’s profile, you will see that he says he is “Actively looking for new opportunities”.

This lends itself to a little bit of conversation. The Lead Designer/Creative Director at Bioware/Electronic Arts works in the gaming industry, an industry we know is booming and at the same time, one that can change with the snap of your fingers.

It takes an entire team of people to build and launch a game and after that launch, all of the same team members are not needed to stay on. Layoffs usually happen and those creative people have to search for a new job or a new game to help launch. Then there are some positions who stay on for the lifetime of a game and see it through to its eventual end. But when that is, no one can 100% predict. There have been games that were expected and predicted to do very well that flopped nearly right out of the gate and others that snuck up out of nowhere and became popular for years and years.

So even if you have a solid position on a video game team, it just makes sense to always be on the hunt for new opportunities. Many of these who are employed by companies like BioWare also do work on the side. (They probably have to sign NDAs and non-competes but they are not usually restricted from personal projects). They will be rewarded for having an updated resume, online contacts and for networking in their industry.t takes an entire team of people to build and launch a game and after that launch, all of the same team members are not needed to stay on. So Erickson’s LinkedIn profile doesn’t necessarily reflect anything on SWTOR- it just shows that he is prepared should something else come along that he wants to put his time in. What do you think? Is he just being prepared or does he know something we don’t know about his current job status?
