SWTOR Review from TechTalk

Once again, we see SWTOR in a big news source. CBS News has a review of the game in their TechTalk section. Their piece titled “Star Wars: The Old Republic puts the role-playing back in the MMORPG” tell us just that- how they feel BioWare put the role-playing aspect back into MMORPGs. This is a good point to make about the game. The story is the biggest selling point of this game and it’s the one thing that stands out and separates the game from other MMOs. They tell us: The Old Republic brings these staples of any good BioWare game and throws them into the culture of massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG). The result is something that feels markedly different than anything other MMORPGs have to offer, while never straying too far from the established formula. This review is less of a review in the traditional sense and…

TORWARS Early ‘End Game’ Review

The TORWARS team has been playing SWTOR quite a bit and they are now ready to reveal some of their “end game” insight into the game. After nearly a month since release (for early access players) this has been more than enough time for many players to find their way to level 50 and even to experience a bit of what that post-50 content has to offer. This review is going to tell you about Ilum and daily questing, hard mode flashpoints, an overview of Operations and just general info about end game SWTOR. It’s definitely worth taking the time to read over unless you’ve already been 50 yourself for some time now (in which case, maybe you should be writing a review :p).  *Spoiler Warning: Republic-based End Game content revealed below.* A snippet: “So how do I rate the end game? Well, it’s important to acknowledge that the game…

Star Wars: The Old Republic Pre-review from Gaming Age

Gaming Age takes a look at SWTOR for the first time and it’s safe to say that overall, their reviewer was thoroughly impressed with the game. They’ve taken the time to write up a nearly 1,000-word pre-review to explain what they think of it. This is a great “early impressions” type piece that we wanted to share with you. And if any of you have friends that still have not bought SWTOR, this is a great preview/review to send to them. The pre-review begins: “Star Wars: The Old Republic is the first MMO that could legitimately take the top spot away from the long-running champ of MMO’s, World of Warcraft.” And haven’t we heard this one before? While the haters and WoW fanboys may disagree, there are actually some really good reasons why this might be true. The reviewer at Gaming Age takes some time to tell us their opinions….

SWTOR Impressions: Thoughts from an old school MMO player

We have written here before about the thoughts and impressions of veteran MMO gamers when it comes to SWTOR. In fact, we’re long time MMO players ourselves and we love to hear what others have to say as well. We stumbled across this Reddit post, a la SWTOR review, from a self-professed old school MMO player.  What did he have to say about SWTOR? The poster starts with their background in MMO gaming: “My first MMO was Everquest and this was after it had been out for a while” And then some info on other games he’s tried/player: “Since then I have played DDO, STO, and Champions, as well I have tried the trial versions of most other MMO’s out there currently and while some offer a unique experience none have matched the polish and ease of teaching you how to play the game like WOW, until now.” Ok, so…

SWTOR Beta: First Impressions from MMO Crunch

SWTOR beta first impressions are coming in and so far, most players have positive things to say about the game. With so many people who have now gotten to try it out after this past weekend, we’re going to keep seeing those SWTOR reviews, previews and impressions. Here’s what MMO Crunch had to say about first impressions of the game. Players were impressed with how smoothly it ran with no lags or crashes and with the wonderful graphics. SWTOR offers several options for customizing the characters, which is a big plus. Some of the options for characters include different hairstyles, faces, makeup and skin color. Some races even have ridges in the faces, jewelry, horns, scars and tattoos leaving a lot of room for the imagination. Players did notice that some races have more options than others do but this wasn’t a really big deal. One of the main complaints…

SWTOR Impressions from a Veteran MMORPG Player

I’ve mentioned before that I have played a lot of MMORPGs. We’re talking years of games- free to play, subscription based, betas and more. I’ve tried every MMORPG I can get my hands on and surprisingly, really enjoyed some of the oddball ones that my friends had never heard of. Since we’re coming up on SWTOR release soon, I thought it was a good time for a write-up on SWTOR compared to other MMORPGs. A lot of my friends and guidlies keep asking me what I think so here we go. The sci-fi genre of MMORPGs takes up a very small piece of the pie compared to your typical medieval genre. This fact alone sets SWTOR apart from the sea of other games out there today. So what other aspects set it apart and in what ways is it similar to other MMORPGs? TOR is not so far different from…

Not Everyone Loves SWTOR

Not everyone who has tried SWTOR loves it. In fact, some people just don’t like it at all. Others point out some positives but their overall impressions are well… not that impressed. The latter would be the case of Lewis B. of Tap Repeatedly, who basically calls it a WoW clone. What do you think? Is he on to something or just full of crap? Lewis posts his impressions on the Tap Repeatedly site on Wednesday and while he had a couple of positives to add, he seemed mostly disappointed with the game. Let’s start by explaining that he played it at the Eurogamer Expo demo and his playtime was limited. He explains: The first was that the booth was surprisingly small, with Alienware laptops setup in two circles just in front of the over 18’s area. Queues were predictably long and so the demo time was quite limited (around fifteen minutes)….
