15 Huge questions we need answered after Star Wars: Force Awakens

We all know that Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is the largest movie of the year, and if we go by pre-ticket sales it could also be the most anticipated movie of all-time. It’s so special and important to Star Wars fans not only because it’s a new chapter for the original saga, but it’s also picking up the story from three decades ago, and that’s a very long time to wait. The best news of all, it’s been a huge success!

This article will not be talking about the milestones for the box office that it’s reached or any of its criticisms or merchandising records. If you have already seen the movie, you know that it raises a ton of questions to be answered and the ending is one of the most grueling parts of all. We want to warn you that if you have not watched the movie yet, DO NOT READ any further. SPOILERS ARE AHEAD!!!!!

The following will be 15 questions that we want answered in the upcoming movies, Episode VIII and Episode IX.

Will Kylo Ren be Redeemable?

The first part of Star Wars 7 toys with the thought that Kylo Ren may be at odds with the light side of the force and that he could be suffering from the strong temptation of joining up with his family once again. He’s even risen concerns with Supreme Leader Snoke and he does not have much faith in him.

However, at what seems to be a moment of extreme weakness, Kylo does something that no one sees coming and renounces his past identity and kills his father. After this takes place, he then attacks Finn and Rey, and shows that he has no signs of slowing down during this vengeful mission. Do you think he has already crossed way too many lines and he is nowhere near being redeemable? Many people think so, but we want this to be answered during the next installments of the saga.

How Did Maz Kanata Manage to get a Lightsaber?

When the light side head in the direction of the planet that is Takodana, the force then decides to lure Rey into the dungeon of Maz Kanata’s castle and this is where an ancient chest holds a lightsaber hilt inside of it. Once it was touched, it showed the memories of Rey’s past. From Luke’s academy days to the events of what happened to the Knights of Ren, and this then led her to Jakku. Rey becomes scared of the weapon and decides to take off.

Han Solo sees that the lightsaber is Luke’s, however, when he decided to ask Maz about how she obtained it she only replied by stating that it was a very long story fit to be told at another time. We hope that this question will be answered in the next installment of Star Wars films.

Who the Heck is Supreme Leader Snoke?

The leader Snoke is only vaguely introduced during Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It shows him as a hologram that dramatizes his physical appearance. He’s definitely in charge of The First Order and seems to be responsible for reassembling the resources of the Empire after the defeat of Emperor Palpatine and the second death star.

The questions that remain unanswered are who he is exactly, did he have any part in the behind the scenes of the first six Episodes of Star Wars, and why he’s much disfigured. The only thing we know for sure is that he is a force user and he had a part in recruiting and trained Kylo Ren, Leia, Han, and all of the other people that know who he is. One of the most common thoughts is that Snoke may be Darth Plagueis, who is the leader of the Palpatine and he was announced during Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. In this previous film, Palpatine showed him as an old trainer with a few choice words that he uses commonly.

“Darth Plagueis was a dark lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise. He could influence the midichlorians to create life. He had such a knowledge of the Dark Side, he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying.”

Is Rey Actually a Skywalker?

The basis of Rey’s story, with her being smart with technology, a force sensitive scavenger on a depleted planet gives us the obvious conclusion that Rey is a descendant of Anakin Skywalker himself. This was not shown to fans until Episode VII was released and then the history of her was not shown much and there were only vague explanations where fans learned about her being abandoned on Jakku by who was supposed to be her family. However, she doesn’t seem to recall much of her past except for the horrible flashbacks that she has from time to time.

So, we wonder if she is a Skywalker and who exactly abandoned her on the planet of Jakku? We hope to find out soon.

Why Did Ben Solo Go to the Dark Side?

It was revealed to us during the conversations that went on between Han Solo and General Leia that it was Leia who decided to put their son, Ben Solo, into training with Luke, but for some reason he decided to turn to the dark side. It has not been explained but Snoke somehow persuades Ben to be evil. He even went as far as killing all of the students at Luke’s academy, with the help of the Knights of Ren.

But what exactly would make Ben go against his parents, his cohorts, and Luke? Why does he praise Darth Vader so much? Why does Ben consider Snoke to be wise and is he really just ignoring the fact that his grandfather made the choice to go back to the light side during the ending of Return of the Jedi?

What Exactly Does The First Order Look Like?

The space conflict during Star Wars 7 is limited in scope besides a short scene of a handful of planets that are being eliminated by the First Order’s Starkiller weapon. Kylo Ren, Hux, Snoke, and Captain Phasma are thought to be the First Order’s top hierarchy but they are also shown as working on one vessel which is a new Star Destroyer and they also command their only planetary base.

How large is their fleet exactly? What happened to the thousands of Imperial ships from the previous years? Is there only one new model Star Destroyer and only one kind of modernized TIE Fighter? There are so many questions that we hope to be answered.

What Does the New Republic Look Like?

No matter that the Resistance is backed up by the government they are still shown as just a small ragtag group, just like they were depicted in Episode IV.

C3PO mentions the Republic Fleet but fans don’t really know if they are anywhere else acting on an assignment that was not addressed, or if they were perhaps destroyed during the Starkiller’s first assault. Where in the world did the Corellian capital ships, Calamari cruisers, Frigates, Corvettes, and the huge collection of fighters that used to be used by the Rebellion at?

The Knights of Ren: Who are They?

Kylo Ren’s name came from Ben Solo in the same way that Anakin Skywalker took the identity of Darth Vader. The name Ren stems from the Knights of Ren which was first introduced in Star Wars: Episode VII as a team of warriors who most think that Rey’s flashbacks are the reason for the slaughter of Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy.

What isn’t explained is who they are, how they came together, and if all of them are Force users. The only part that fans see shows Kylo holding a lightsaber. When did they originate? Are they working for Snoke? Why are they not serving with Kylo Ren during The Force Awakens?

Is Chewbacca Going to Stay with Rey?

Chewbacca has owed his existence to Han Solo for getting him free in the past, but now he is master less. He has certainly earned his spot as being a hero and a loyal ally, so he can pretty much do whatever he wants. It seems though that his loyalty has extended to Rey and the Resistance towards the end of the film.

We wonder if he will stay as Rey’s companion and will the team keep the Millennium Falcon operational during the new Star Wars trilogy.

Who is Max Von Sydow’s Character?

The main story of Star Wars 7 starts with Lor San Tekka acquiring a vital piece of map data that is needed to find Luke Skywalker. He then passed it onto Resistance Pilot Poe Dameron before Kylo Ren cuts him down.

Who exactly is the character or was during the Empire days is not explained but there are few hints given when Tekka refers to Leia as being royalty, showing that he may have even served the Rebellion a lot earlier. Also, he knew Kylo Ren before he went to the dark side because Ren commented on how old Tekka actually looks now. Even though the character is on Jakku, there is no connection to Rey.

Why Did Luke Create a Galactic Map?

After Ben Solo turned into Kylo Ren and then led his knights against Luke and his Jedi Academy, Luke ended up feeling responsible and then went into hiding after he located the original Jedi temple, and then didn’t find it. For some odd reason he decided to put a map on R2-D2 and then sent him right back to Leia and the Republic for safekeeping, but the map wasn’t all the way completed.

The big missing piece to it all was with Lor San Tekka on Jakku but it’s never explained if he had the missing piece the entire time or how he came to get it. If he did have ownership of it the entire time, why did he give over to the Resistance now? There has to be another character behind the scene or a plot point that is missing on purpose as to what started the events of The Force Awakens at the time that it did. We think it has something to do with the awakening.

Why did Luke make a map just for it to be found? Was his intention for it to be found at that exact moment? What exactly made R2-D2 wake up when he did?

Exactly how Bad were Kylo and Finn Hurt?

During the lightsaber battle of Star Wars 7, Kylo Ren gets injured and then defeats Finn. He ends up cutting his shoulder and his back and spine gets sliced open which made him unconscious. We are wondering if Finn will completely recover. How much damage was done to Kylo Ren by Rey? Do you think that Ren lost a limb or an eye when he got hit? The last part of the character that you get to see is that he is not able to get up.

How did Captain Phasma, Ren, and General Hux manage to escape from a planet that is exploding in time without being blown to pieces themselves? We do know that Snoke told Hux to grab Kylo Ren and bring him to him so that he could supposedly complete his training, however you don’t get to see exactly how that went down during the few minutes of time before the Starkiller base exploded. The majority of fans are in disbelief about most of this but there are those who are wondering how the characters evolved and changed so much by Episode VII.

Starkiller 2.0?

The original trilogy showed two Death Stars that were constructed and then subsequently destroyed and one of the major criticism of Star Wars 7 is that the story follows A New Hope almost to a T. It’s hard for us not to think that since the Empire wasn’t able to learn from their previous mistakes that they will eventually make a larger Starkiller during Episode IX.

However, if they do not, what do you think the next space-based threat be for Lucasfilm to introduce more of the First Order and Resistance starships, and also the toys? Snoke and Hux definitely need something for the Republic to be scared of and after the happenings of three failures of superweapons, we wonder if they will use a different type of superweapon.

What Made R2-D2 Reactivate?

When BB-8 was returned to the Resistance base, General Leia and her army have to have the galactic help map before they could find Luke. BB-8 knows that R2-D2 has all this information but was put into sleep mode after Luke left. Our question is why the technicians couldn’t turn on the droid and how exactly did BB-8 know that Artoo had the rest of the map and why R2 only had part of the map?

And possibly the most important question of all is, what activated R2-D2 at the very moment he was needed?

How Did Finn Break Free?

Finn was conditioned by the First Order to be a loyal Stormtrooper from birth and an efficient worker and soldier. He is quite unique though and is actually the only Stormtrooper of the whole saga that was able to be free of his programming and not follow orders.

So, is Finn Force sensitive? He might not be just as strong as Rey or have the best Force powers be he is perfect with precision with his blaster and the guns of the TIE Fighter and Millennium Falcon. He showed that we was able to defend himself for a long time against Kylo Ren, who is a highly trained lightsaber warrior.
